My great-grandmother had a book (only book I have that belonged to her) dealing with Mary Ball, mother of George Washington, because she was "told" by her family members we were related to that Ball Family.
Mike Ball of DNA Project, did response to my request for the Haplogroup for Col. Wm. Ball, ancestor of the said Mary Ball, it is I l.
I got real lucky that a distant Ball cousin of mine-- descendant of Osborn Ball, brother to my John Ball, father of John Washington Ball was also tested "is Rlblb2 or the shorthand notation R-M 269"
A million thanks out to that man !! Don't know his name.
He said that another profile fits the above but he did not additional information about the documented blood line.
It would be nice to have other closer relations tests, but this is a very good start.
I also found another interesting D.N.A site for Mangum Family. They have posted the results for a Mangum man whose marker shows The Duke Marker, for men living in Granville/Orange Co. NC. And they posted they did not WHY !!
I e-mail the web master, but my reponse was returned.
I think I know why the Mangum man is showing a Duke marker. My distant cousin Mary Carrington (daughter of John) was married to Arthur Mangum Jr. and while he was on "his death bed" had an affair with Wm. Duke living the next farm over. They had a son named Green A. Mangum born 1811 and he married but I have no record of the names of his children. Wm. Duke in his will acknowledge that he could have been his son. This is a matter of public record, his will filed in Orange Co. NC. I guess he really was !!!
In any case I will continue to pick away at this D.N.A test results (then I can get a hold of it) trying to apply it to the documentation which I have compiled.
I thought it was Family Tree DNA they were going to try to place the D.N.A of "famous persons" in their data bank. If that's is true that really would help to solve some of these family tales.
I wonder if they have the D.N.A. of President Zachary Taylor to compare to all those present day Taylor researchers who claim descend from him.
I do not.
I have send an e-mail to Family Tree asking the location on their web site where I can find the test results of various surname in their data base.
From the beginning (before DNA) the problem was the marriage bond date between Ephraim Carrington & Priscilla Duke was long after their children's birth years. She died 1843 Orange Co. NC and in her will named Ephraim children as being her children.
Cousin James Cossart/Cozart & Sarah Brinkley through legal documentation we know they had "set up housekeeping" long before they were legally married.
Was this the same case with Ephraim & Priscilla? The question being do I (and others) have Duke ancestry?
Found on Ancestry DNA Project I have many DNA matches with researchers who have Duke, Grendon, Taylor & Lucy ancestry.
So I am now building a case as to Priscilla (Duke) Carrington blood line.
1. Edward Duke born 1538 Benhall Lodge, Suffolk, England wife was Dorothy Jermyn. They had 16 children, one being their daughter Elizabeth Duke who married Nathaniel Bacon. I need to check Bacon researchers from this couple.
2. William Duke married as the third husband to Hannah Grendon. Who was the daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Grendon Her mother married Thomas Stegge, their daughter Grace Stegge married John Byrd. I have Autosomal DNA match with one of their descend.
3. Henry Duke died 1718 Prince George Co. VA m. Elizabeth Taylor. She has an interesting blood line which I have separate DNA matches.
4. Wm. Duke married Elizabeth........? need to find her maiden name to seek additional DNA matches. I have two other DNA matches with their son Joseph.
5. John Duke married Lydia........? need to find her maiden name to seek additional DNA matches. They had children: Wm. (married Mary Carrington sister of Ephraim), Hardyman, Taylor, Samuel & Robert Duke. I know on paper they had issue but seeking DNA matches.
6. Priscilla Duke b. c1760 died 1843 m. Ephraim Carrington. I have many different Carrington DNA matches. I will be seeking additional DNA matches with their children. I have so far two other cousins both from son Sion. Their children: Morgan, Sion, John & Dicey.
You can check the Duke Family Project on Family Tree DNA to try to figure out which group we belong. At the moment I am just collecting Autosomal DNA Match, for that is under my control. It would be nice to have a male Y marker for this line of Duke, but I will not count on that.
