I have posted a message on Ancestry Message Board about establishing the Y marker for my group of Edwards.Trying to figure out the parentage of my Gerrard Edwards I spend about a day going through all my matches for my Edwards surname on Ancestry--8 pages !!!
I am looking at Edwards that lived in Fauquier, King William & Westmoreland Cos. VA. I have found a descend from Martin Edwards and his line goes back to Richard Edwards (1524-1566) who married Helen Griffith. His line from son Edward Edwards. This line also has a link with Richard Cocke of early VA, which I have matches with Cocke researchers.
I have found five different DNA matches going back to Richard Edwards through another son Richard (1566-1625).
These two branches of the same Edwards family not linked together in Ancestry Tree, but the DNA evidence is there are are from the same group.
I have other DNA matches that I have not been able as now to link to this Edwards Family.
There are a number of Edwards who lived in Isle of Wight Co. VA and I have not linked them to the above couple.
Now--the wild thing--in connection with the parentage of Richard Edwards born 1524 died 1566. Said to be the bastard son of King Henry VIII and Agnes Blewitt.
You will find on the net articles about this issue.
Researcher Kenneth A. Conway has his chart on line back to King Henry VIII.
There are direct male Edwards from this group who have their "Y" markers on file Family Tree DNA. I do not know that they claim they have the male marker of King Henry VIII.
Personally I just want to get my Gerrard's line out of VA and most likely back to Wales.
I would think a rather simple matter to settle. Considering all the hundreds of Y markers send in to Family Tree. And considering all the Edwards matches I have on Ancestry DNA with my Autosomal project.
I have also send e-mail to Edwards DNA Project on Family Tree DNA. If he is helpful, that would be a first.
Once the numbers are establish for Richard Edwards, then they can be compared to other Edwards men who lived in Wales. With any luck male son of Wm. Edwards can be found.
Then the question is do they match or not. I really think people really do not want the "Family Tale" to be tested by DNA.
