Our Derryberry Y DNA test show Guy Derryberry (off by three numbers), Bob Derryberry & Donald Derryberry (my 4th cousin once removed). That test showing a matching pattern.

However, under Family DNA Path Finder, Donald Derryberry does not show up on my test site, now does he show a match with they other two Derryberry men. Really do not understand.

Three other researchers show matching Donald or Guy Derryberry. Which is another mystery to me.

I hope as more people turn in the test some of these mysteries will be solved.

My ethical profile between Family DNA and Ancestry show a different break down of my population center.
Because of the sharing of researcher Mrs. Goodwin I can check the sites of Donald Derryberry & Guy Derryberry.

Donald Derryberry (was to be my closer distant cousin) his line from Thomas Derryberry of Henderson Co. TN. He shares only on #2 10.32 with Terry Derryberry is line from Jacob Derryberry of Henderson Co. TN. He showing no match with Guy or Bob Derryberry. From what I have seen this amount shows little DNA share between Donald & Terry Derryberry.

Guy Derryberry shares with Bob Derryberry from the line of Adam Derryberry of Maury Co. TN. His line stayed in that county and did not live where my line lived in Henderson Co. TN. They share on #3 53.7 which is a good amount. But the question is it Derryberry DNA that they are sharing?

Guy has a strange entry of Walter Hopgood who I do not know who he is and he does not show up on my site. Connie B. Holmes small bit of DNA on #5 and Lavonna R. Holmes #20 bit more. None of these Holmes woman show up on my site.

Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to exchange information directly with the late Harold Jean Bolen of GA. And I would have asked some direct & hard questions.

Our common ancestors were Reeves Bolen & Durainey Carrington. He descended from his eldest son John W. Bolen and my great-grandmother Dessie G. Bolen from his youngest son Sion M. Bolen.

When I first started to collect information about my great-grandmother Dessie Green Bolen I ran into his material:that the Bolen of Henderson Co. TN were descendants of the Bolling of VA (descendants of Pocahontas). As another researcher told me "he so wanted to be related Pocahontas that he just made up material about the family in North Carolina down from VA." The "Professional Genealogist" who he had hired stopped supplying him material when he saw him twisting, changing, deleting etc....material which did not fit with what he wanted to believe.

There are a lot of other researches (mostly living in the South) who have also supplied materials to others trying to connect their Bowling, Bolen etc...to the Bolling family of VA. The Collection of Papers called "Phelps Works" you can order all on film through L.D.S. library.

Well we now have D.N.A test and the Bolling family of VA has a rather large project collecting samples. I do not know if any of my male Bolen have been tested, but I am sure they are not related to the group that H.J. Bolen has spread information. Most likely they came down from MD into Granville Co. NC.

His materials show up in local newspapers and into others personal libraries. He was going to publish his works, but died before it could be completed, called "A Family History 1476-1976"

I realize it is not good to "speak ill of the dead", but he wasted a lot of my time and money collecting information about the Bolling of VA. Why should I sit by and let others waste their time & money as well.

My cousin from TN send me some picture of the Bolen of Henderson Co. TN that belong to the descendants of John W. Bolen and some could have had "non-white" blood lines, but they would not have been from Pocahontas !!! Perhaps in the future Mitochondrial DNA test might shed light on this mytery.

Reeves Bolen husband to Durainey Carrington, their son John Bolen's his line submitted the DNA which is closer to my line from his youngest son Sion Monroe Bolen husband to Amanda E. Melton.

I do not know if my line by Sion M. Bolen has a male descend or not. But I have several Autosomal DNA matches with researchers from said couple.

The Bolling DNA is public and "our" group of Bolling is called Group 3. A rather large group make up descends of Benj. Bowling.

Group #1 few samples for this group, but this the group of Bolling that people in the past wanted to belong. This is the blood line of Pochontas.

373 samples are listed for at least $25,000 spend on just doing the samples.

People have taken their time and spend their monies to confirm their true Bolling blood line. And then offered this material "free" to the public.

Let's not insult them by just throwing away this absolute measure of which group of Bolling we belong.

If you claim decend from John Bowling & Martha Mangum of Granville Co. NC then you are NOT a member of Col. Robert Bolling of early VA. Use your delete key on your computer.

I have four different Brown families to collect DNA samples. I have found one to confirm my line from Abraham Brown born c1636 RI died 1714 Mansfield Burlington N.J. wife Cattron, they were English Quakers.

Their daughter Martha Brown married 1687 Monmouth Co. NJ found Shrewbury Quaker Records to John Hampton a Quaker from Scotland.

I descend through their son Noah Hampton who died c1775 present day WVA.

The other DNA sample from Abraham through his son Preserve Brown born 1699 Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co. NJ, married Mary French and died 1760 Burlington Co. NJ.

.............................................
Second group of English Quaker Brown would be the family of John Brown husband of Hannah Ridgeway, their son Richard Brown who married Elizabeth........? their daughter Hannah Brown married her cousin John Ridgeway. They lived in Wickham, England before their removal to NJ.

...............................................
Third group Ann Brown wife of Robert Mackay. I am seeking information from researchers who are showing Scottish Brown Family ancestry living in NJ. I have found said DNA samples.

................................................
Fourth group Elizabeth Brown born 1780 NC died c1872 Henderson Co. TN. I have no idea if she was Scottish or English.
Based on various DNA matches and documentation I have on the parentage of my Elizabeth Brown born 1780 Orange Co. NC died 1872 Henderson Co. TN. One researcher stated she lived to be 92 years of age.

Her line from the English Quakers who were once members of Nottingham Meeting House, PA removed down to the meeting houses in Loudoun & Fairfax Co. VA then to Orange Co. NC.

As far as I can tell her group of English Quakers not the same as the ones started by Nicholas Brown my line into Hampton family. They were members of Shrewsbury Meeting House of NJ. Some of these Quakers removed down to Cane River Meeting House and left records with our Branson cousins. This group of Brown also goes into my mother side.

She (Elizabeth Brown) is not the same as the family of John Brown born in Wickham, England married Hannah Ridgeway. This Brown line goes into my Ridgeway into McKay. On father's side.

I will be collecting over the next months additional information about the following blood line.

1. Wm. Brown b. 29 Mar 1658 Puddington, England d. 23 Aug 1746 Chester Co. PA m-2 1684 Nottingham Meeting, PA to Anne Mercer. I have additional Mercer DNA matches. He being the brother of James Brown who married Honour Brown. This is couple that some of our Mackay/McKay insist parentage of our Ann Brown wife of Robert Mackay. I have two DNA matches from researcher who decend from James Brown.

2. Wm. Brown born 1694 Cecil Co.PA d. 1715 same, married first to Elizabeth Cowgill. I have additional Cowgill & Croasdale DNA samples

3. Wm. Brown born 1722 believe removed to NC where he died. Looking for the name of his wife. His uncle Richard Brown also had a son name Wm. born about the same time married to Elizabeth Farquar.

4. John Brown born c1755 VA m. Margaret..........? both made their marks on documents in Orange Co. NC. He most likely died before 1830 Orange Co. NC census. These lands stated he came down from Loudoun Co. VA into NC.

5. Elizabeth Brown born 1780 Orange Co. NC m. c1805 same location to Isaac Morris, d. 1872 Henderson Co. TN. I think she had a brother named George Washington Brown. A number of entries for various George Washington Brown on the net. This man and his wife and children remained in Orange Co. NC. Need the names of her other siblings.

The above Brown have intermarried with a number of families that also intermarried with my Branson, McKay, Jobe etc....
They could account for my matches with Cloud, Beeson & Pugh.
Also you can throw into the pot Steer & Hollingsworth.

I e-mail a few researcher who share my female line of DNA. I do have a full match with researcher's line end in Wales. It will be interesting to learn if my female line runs through some Quaker Family who came from Wales to PA.

I and researcher Mrs. Lodema Lucia both descend from Jacob Shipman (17i46-1792) & his wife Sarah Jane M. Gage. She from brother Matthew and from John R. Shipman who died in Carroll Co. TN.

We would be 4th cousin twice removed.
Found on Ancestry DNA site researcher "Danny Richter 1961" descend of Hannah Anna Shipman born 1780 Rutherford Co. NC died 1860 AL married to John R. Reed.

I know she does not belong to my direct line of Shipman: Jacob born 1780 died 1850 TN husband to Nancy Denton.

I believe this researcher should look at Edward Shipman who died 1794 Rutherford Co. NC. He was married to Elizabeth Merrell, so Autosomal Matches for that surname should be looked into.

All the rest of my Shipman DNA matches on my direct line, so I would be interested in figuring out this line.

Found Family Tree DNA researcher Tonia V. Spain is about my 9th cousin. My son Brandan still showing match 10th cousin.

The only information she send me that her Nancy Rust was the granddaughter of John Rust & Agnes Clements.

My line from their son Samuel Rust and we removed from VA down to NC then to TN.

Hope someday to find one of our Rust/McKay cousin turning in a sample.
Found Ancestry DNA sample of "jsbristol" he descends from John Rust (1719-1811) son of John Rust & Agnes Clements. I descend from their son Samuel Rust.

So we have another link between the family in VA and NC/TN.

He has another surname in common with me Bowling, but I think a different group.

In 1997 Todd Bolen compiled his book called "The Bolling,Bowling, Bolen Family in America before 1800" Entries placed in book by first names. He assigned numbers to each entry.

Researcher "jsbristol" claims descend from:

1. Sims & Simms Bowling (FH627) his son

2. Wm. Bowling who married Elizabeth Colclough (FH 746)

3. Alexander Bowling born c1746 died 1791 KY married Martha Patsie Williams

These Bowling lived in Stafford and Fairfax Co. VA.

I do not know when The Bolling Family DNA site was formed, but they listed beside a lot of the DNA entries Todd Bolen's numbering system, so researcher can tell who each sample belongs.

And they have grouped the various Bolling, Bowling, Bolen etc...in groups. My group of Bowling/Bolen--GROUP 3.

The above researcher's Y marker could be in GROUP 6 or 5

Not related to my group. Added to that my 3rd cousin "dskrams950" DOES NOT match with "jsbristol" which means my DNA match with this researcher was just with RUST family of VA.

I have looked at the entries for my Bolen cousins filed with Ancestry, not one has the correct information about our group of Bolen.

GROUP #1 descend of Col. Robert Bolling
GROUP #5 & 6 Bowling living in Stafford, Fairfax Co. VA

We again are members of GROUP #3.

About two decades ago I exchanged information with Alexander Bolling of VA, he being a "white Bolling". He told me then "we have no record of members of our family removed down to NC to settle". That was a polite way of saying "the blue Bollings really do not have any documentation for their claims of Pochontas ancestry."

Personally--I would have rather had him be more firm with what he knew was the truth. Now we have the DNA study which shows for those who can read numbers, the majority of people claiming Pochontas is in their family trees are wrong.

The "F" letter which appear in the set of DNA results come from the book by Todd Bolen. I would not trust the information given by said researchers. Most claim Pochontas ancestory.

I am really only interested in Group Three named after Benj. Bolling b. 1734, d. 1832, his numbers match my oldest known Bowling ancestor John (husband to Elizabeth).

Starting with Reeves Bowling/Bolen b. 1 Dec 1818, d. 1864 his son
John W. Bolen his son
Wm. R. bolen his son
Harold Jean Bolen (family historian) his son
Wm. H. Bolen Kit #3746

I still am looking for documentation to support H.J. Bolen's statements about the siblings of Reeves' in NC, but DNA test are matching the other known son of John & Martha (Mangum) Bowling. The share a common "Y" marker.

Willis Bolling b 1791, d. 1881, two kits #2207 Thomas Benton Bowling and #106892 Phil Bowling.

Joseph Bolling b. 1801, this kit #1947 Franklin Bowling & kit #33587 James Wesley Boulden

So the two kits for Willis, Joseph match the one kit # supplied by descendant of Reeves Bowling/Bolen of Henderson Co. TN.

I was the first Bolling researcher to have found the land deeds of John Bowling in NC made his mark with side ways "B" and his wife Elizabeth with "E". These deeds stated that they removed to York Co. SC and the same marks have been found by researchers in York Co. SC. I made copies of the NC records, but never heard back from them to send their copies. Some day I will get around to ordering those deeds. HOWEVER many Kit # under heading of Benj. Bolling 1734-1832 show the same numbering pattern as the five above.

You can go down the listing I believe well over 15 of his descendants send in sample, which is why I guess Group Three called by his name.

I did notice Kit #23413 list oldest ancestor as Thomas Bouldinge of Swan, that is wrong they have their own group 2. In Todd Bolen's book Fh665

There is also a test kit #93570 links Baxter Bolling with said John & Benjamin Bolling/Bowling

Those who thought our Bolen of Henderson Co. TN might have been descendant of Pochontas are wrong and other theory (before DNA) the other old Bolling Line of VA--Thomas who came over on the "Swan". They too have their own group and we do not belong.

This DNA test shows us going forward from NC we will want to find at least: John, Benj. & Baxter together.

I say MD and other say VA.
Found Ancestry DNA Site researcher "Bosh Pindo" supplied Autosomal DNA sample, he from the line of Willis Bowling eldest brother to my Reeves Bolen of Henderson Co. TN.

Since two males of his family have supplied Y marker test found on The Bolling DNA Project Site. I hope he must have known his line does not belong to Col. Robert Bolling or Bowling of Stafford or Fairfax Co. VA.

We have three distant Bowling cousins all descends of Benj. Bowling & Mary Phelps and their descends have supplied the larger amount of Y marker test now on The Bolling Family DNA site. "A.R", "R.M." & "deannameeks 1955" linked their lines to Col. Robert Bolling anyway.

Researcher on Ancestry DNA site "chsyles20" ancestors were Joshua Howard & Joanna O'Carroll of early Baltimore, MD. This cousinship goes back 10 generations.

I have had several matches with Gist surname, so that line is solid all the way down to me. I have found one Murray researcher who also matches with me and now another family marrying into the Gist family this Howard. I have confirmed two blood lines coming into that branch of the family.

People have placed on line that Christopher Gist was a member of The Washington Family of VA, back in England. I have really found no evidence that is true. The odds of finding a researcher who decends from that family in England, I do not think possible.

His wife Edith Cromwell, people have linked her to Oliver Cromwell. I do not think the evidence is presented with their pedigree charts.

This proven line:

1. Joshua Howard b. 1665 Manchester, England, d. 1738 Baltimore, MD m. 1686 Baltimore, MD to Joanna O'Carroll born c1668 Ireland, d. 1763 Baltimore, MD. The other researcher through their son Henry Howard

2. Mary Howard b. 1712 Baltimore, MD, d. 1755 NC m. Nathaniel Gist. There is a Y study dealing with this family on Family Tree DNA. Many people have joined DAR with this family.

3. Joshua Gist b. Baltimore, MD, d. c1811 Henderson Co. KY married Elizabeth Kellam, have sheets on this surname to do.
He was at "The Battle of Kings's Mountain". With a couple of cousins and uncle.

4. Nathaniel Gist b. c1785 Greene Co. NC, d. 1843 Morganfield, Union Co. KY. Married Patsy Brooks

5. Nancy Gist b. 24 Sep 1818 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, d. 29 Jul 1879 same location, married Aaron Taylor

6. Mary Ann Taylor b. 11 Nov 1838, d. 25 Nov 1926 Morganfield, Union Co. VA, married Samuel A. Rudd

7. Alice/Allie Rudd b. 29 Sep 1867 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, d. 24 Jul 1947 Mississipppi Co. MO married Henry H. Hopgood

8. Roy D. Hopgood m. Olive O. King

9. Patsy D. Hopgood m. R.E. Shipp

10. Dee Ann Shipp (me) m. Irvin P. Buck Jr.
Found on Ancestry DNA site researcher Janicekhi descend of Margaret Gist born 1785 NC died 1834 in TN or AL married 5 Oct 1820 Lawrence Co. TN to Julius Brewer.

Researcher looking for her parentage.

Family Tree DNA has four Denton researcher who have that surname on their list.

I have heard back from one--Karen George is looking for Lincoln Co. KY Denton

John Denton m. Elizabeth Johnston said to be parents of
James Denton (c1760-1827) m. Sarah Clarkson.

She is looking for her line back to Rev. Richard Denton of Yorkshire, England early NY.

The parentage now posted on one Ancestry Tree I do not believe to be correct.
Found Ancestry DNA site researcher "MAT" descend of Samuel Denton (1655-1689) husband to Mary Brush, their daughter Clement Denton (1682-1734) wife to Ebenezer Smith, family stayed in NY area.

This researcher does not name the father of said Samuel, I know to be Nathaniel Denton son of Rev. Richard Denton.

I descend from another son of said Rev. Richard Denton. So very distant cousins.

After working with my various families on Family Tree DNA and Ancestry DNA and finding many matches with close cousin and reaching back 7, 8, 9 or 13 generations. I am afraid the biological connection with my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Elijah H. Derryberry does not exist with other Derryberry persons.

I have found links at least with four distant cousins with his wife Charlotte Shipmman with her distant Shipman cousins. But the linkage with E.H. Derryberry with other Derryberry is not there.

If I knew other Derryberrys had not been test, that would be different. But knowning their DNA (four men) is on filed in Family Tree DNA and my sample does not match.

The answer is rather simple--Derryberry--is not in my gene pool.

I take no great pleasure in stated that fact, but I will not let others spend their time and money chasing someone who does not exist. I do not think I will ever find E.H. Derryberry true parentage.

When I started doing genealogy about 30 years ago I started with E.H. Derryberry and thinking I had found his line, all to be lost again. So I will end right where I started, with E.J. Derryberry.
There are four reseachers who I share DNA with who also have Derryberry as one of their surnames.

1. "dskrams950" also a descend of E.H. Derryberry. We share other TN families. Incorrect information as to linking E.H. Derryberry to John & Ann (Buck) Derryberry of early Essex Co. VA.

2. "bjlaw1" from the line of Jacob Derryberry to Abraham Derryberry who married Mary Starkley (I don't know if really proven). He takes his line back also to John & Ann (Buck) Derryberry of early Essex Co. VA. But we share Carrington & Cozart DNA.

3. "armayfield" same line as #2 We share Mangum ancestry.

So #2 & #3 I think we shared DNA from other families and not Derryberry.

4. "camillehartley45" she is from the line Jacob line as #2 & #3. But she has the most interesting surname EPLEY. The location in early York Co. PA. I am showing Autosomal match with one of her distant cousin on Risedel & Epley families.
And other researchers who share this Epley surname and I do not see other surnames I might have in common.

Something I will want to check in the future.

What would be nice if these Derryberry cousin found on Ancestry would tranfer their sample to Family Tree DNA and see if they match with the four known Derrberry men.
