Found on Ancestry DNA site six DNA kits match all from Edward Ball of early Middlesex Co. VA, he died 4 Sep 1726. He was the sexton of Christ Church, for his entire life. After his death his wife Keziah took over the duties (for pay of course) and took in the poor of the parish for money.

This was not a couple with a lot of funds. People who insist linking them with other rich Ball Families of VA are just wrong.

All my family tales about John Washington Ball being a member of Wm. Ball of VA family were false.

There is a DNA study going on, but they do not break out for researchers the various groups of Ball living in VA nor the rest of the county. My group I believe "R" and above Wm. Ball "I"

I do believe he (Edward) was the emigrate, for I see no evidence he had an old generation helping his family through life.

Edward & Keziah Ball had 12 children and their names and birth dates can be found on Christ Church Parish Records, Middlesex Co. VA. The church is still standing.

Catherine, Arthur, Johannah, Edwards (3 kits), Elizabeth, Kezia, Mary, Ann, Phebe, Daniel (1 kit), Wm. & Benj. (2 kits).

They did not have a son named Valentine Ball. As two researchers have on their DNA listing.

I am sure there are additional matches on Family Tree DNA site.

It would appear from my Autosomal DNA results that my non European ancestors did not originate in the Americas but rather Middle East or North Africa.

Which gives the question where did the idea we had Indian blood come from?

So many people you run in to will tell you so and so in their family was an Indian but in reality the majority of the time the claims are false.

I guess this is why a lot of tribes are really sticky about people who come up to them and claim to be part of them.

I have send an e-mail to my 3rd or 4th cousin "J.B" who is a descend of Murray Lewis Ball, brother to my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp.

He is showing "Africa-South Central Hunter-Gatherers" as one of his racial groups.

Since I do not know him at all, was he surprized with his Ancestry DNA test results? I was not because I knew about the Mitochondrial results from my 1st cousin once removed Jean McCloud Forney. Those lines go back in time 10,000 years unchanged. Some are so weak they will not show in Autosomal DNA test.

Furthermore, I have done the actual genealogy work back to where I think the gene came into the family. My cousins have not. And they have not share any of the DNA information with me. They will, however, take my documented material off line and use that!

My Mali is only 1 % (test results of Ancestry DNA) of my whole make up. I & my son Brandan have been tested by Family Tree DNA it does not show up, they only test down to 3%. But I know it is part of my make up so part of my sons because of the Mitochondrial test of the granddaughter of Lena (Ball) Shipp.

Putting it this way--if my grandfather Walter E. Shipp has done his DNA test he would have "R" for male & "L" for female.

As more of your cousins start doing this test, you will learn more about your various female lines. And they in turn if willing to share their results will learn more about themselves. Some of us, might find things running against what we have been told or believed.

It is all about sharing, which some of my cousin are not willing to do with me. I do not feel my--J 1 C 8-- is my test results to keep "private". It belongs to all who descend from Elizabeth Brown. And other can place on their family tree that particular line's racial make up.

If you descend from Genet Ray of early Monmouth Co. NJ who married Daniel Lippincott then you have an African Blood Line. Now most of my distant Ball/Shipp cousin only have Lena (Ball) Shipp lines back to Sophia A. Richards, so if you descend from her, she had African in her most female line. You can place a "L" by her name and all other females up & down that female line.

Michael, you still could have Native American back somewhere on one of your female lines. You will have to hunt down your various Mitochondrial lines. It could be found in some of your male lines, you will have to decide where to look.

Haplogroup--Female

West Eurasia H T U V X K N I J (most rare)

Sub-African L L1 L2 L3

East Asian A B C D E F G

Native American A B C D X

There are sites which post various test results, not indexed. But if you run into a distant cousin who has turned in her test results which runs into your tree and shows a "L" there is your answer. Or might "A" or "B". Happy Hunting !!

Where do "Family Tale" begin--they are made up, of course. Just like some of the information found on Ancestry Trees!!

Heard back from researcher Greg Parris. He has Rudd on his list of surname.

We are 3rd cousins common ancestor Samuel A. Rudd & wife Mary Ann Taylor. His line from their son James Henry through daughter Vera Estell Rudd. My line through their daughter Alice/Allie Rudd. We share: Rudd, Rogers, Kittrell, Taylor, Cooksey, Gist & Brooks. But only have one bit of DNA shared.

I am still trying to figure out the Chromosome Browser and what it might be telling me about degree of cousinship.

We share only 8.35 cm are 3rd cousins and I share larger amount of DNA with Michael L. McKay is his 3rd cousin once removed. We share two separate bits of DNA.

Greg Parris & I only share one bit of DNA on #20 for said 8.35. My cousin James F. Hopgood shows a hit on same location.

It could be the fact I know I have a double line of Sowers and might have a double line of McKay.
randyw0116 distant Rudd cousin he descends from Wm. Henry Rudd's son Wm. Lee and I from son John D. Rudd.

DNA as turn another one of my family history on its head.

My grandfather Roy D. Hopgood's family it appears lived for a time in Bucks Co. PA (assuming they originally came from England), spend time in Berkeley Co. VA, then Bucks Co. PA and went down the Ohio River to Union Co. KY by 1820 census.

You can go to Y Search and my cousin James F. Hopgood's DNA pattern on file and another sample can be found from HOBGOOD. They are not even a close match. My uncle Earl H. Hopgood also has a sample, but he has not shared that information with me.

The founding father of HOBGOOD-- Thomas Hobgood of early Norfolk Co. VA his will on file. One of his grandson removed down to Granville Co. NC. One of these men named Thomas married a Cozart woman (also found in my mother mother family) they removed to Hopkins Co. KY. Always using the surname Hobgood. There is a small town in Granville Co. NC called Hobgood. One of my Hopgood cousin took his picture, thinking he being a cousin.

These are two different families and modern researchers just thought clerks are mixing together a "b" with "p".

I also think that the parentage of my Daniel Hopgood born 1788 VA will be found in Bucks Co. PA. I think the Wm. Hopgood who died in Union Co. KY most likely elder brother of said Daniel. Time will tell.
Ancestry provided me with my first cousin match on their site.

KEZUNE--tree private--so who might this person be. Female according to profile and no African Ancestry. I would have rather it had been one of my cousin on father's side.

But no Ahn Robb daughter of Earl Hopgood. As we know Ancestry does not have Chromsome Browser, so I can't see all the pieces of DNA light up.

But in the end she most likely can't deliver any new information about our mutal lines.

I already have the match with her father's female DNA and the Y marker of James F. Hopgood and his rather useful sample on Family Tree DNA.

I have no doubt I am the granddaughter of Walter Eugene Shipp. But now science can help me confirm all his various blood lines that when into making up him and therefore 1/4 of my DNA material.

SCHIPP/SHIPS/SHIPP--as far as I know my Autosomal DNA profile is the only one from my main line of Shipp. However, I have two Autosomal DNA kits which come from another one of the four sons of the emigrate John Frederick Schipp. And one Y maker test also from the same son's line. How these researchers and others who have information in their Family Tree are still in "Fantasy Land" believing the family is English and are descends of Wm. Shipp of early Norfolk, VA. That false statement was made back in the 1950's by Ralph D. Shipp and informally published in his book and all these nice people have taken in the information into their Family Tree. So it must be true.

I have additional DNA material shared with German Families of PA & MD: Schauman, Roth & Frey. I have not figured out how they apply to my direct line. I have documents which clearly shows that Godfrey & his brother Jacob were members of various German Luthern Churches. How people can continue to believe they were English, is beyond me.

BRIDGES--I have four Autosomal Matches with other researchers who claim descend from Wm. Bridges who died Pr.Wm.Co.VA in 1743, but I question some of their documentation. So we might share other DNA from some of their other surnames. My goal for the future is to match with known siblings of my Priscilla Ann Bridges. I am showing DNA matches with researchers studying Row & Cole.

BALL--I have numerous matches with descends of the emigrate Edward Ball of early Middlesex Co. VA. Clearly not related to the family of Wm. Ball, father of Mary Ball who was the mother of George Washington. I have one DNA match with a woman who has MacNeil but her line in TN. I believe my MacNeil line could be another one of those Scottish Prisoners send to the colonies in 1650's.

PILCHER--I have several matches with the suname in NC & TN, but still looking for a match with known sibling of my Athaline Pilcher. Since I have many matches with Jett Researchers who descend from Peter Jett of England & early VA, I know my Pilcher line from Daniel Pilcher was with his second wife Matilda Jett daughter of Francis. He had a wife before Matilda. Believe member of Randall Family of Fauquier Co. VA. Still waiting for Autosomal DNA kit from one of the older children of said Daniel.

EDWARDS--I have a match with a researcher studying Wm. Edwards & Maria Richards, he through their daughter Frances and I through son Bushrod P. Edwards. Still looking for lines from the other children of Gerrard Edwards.

RICHARDS--double line for this surname and my major break came from matches with Baylor researchers. This surname has two blood line back to Emperor Charlemagne.

FLEMING--still looking for additional researchers who descend from Thomas Fleming & Hannah Hulett. I have one match with researcher who has Hulett in her listing of surnames, but I have not heard back. I have this surname back to the emigrate, but waiting for additional DNA material. Lippincott I have matched with 10 other researchers. This family living in early Monmouth Co. NJ has been fully documented.

RAY: As far as the ancestry of Genet Ray, she was the carrier of "L" Mitochondrial DNA which was carried down to my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp.

Just by luck I found my first cousin once removed Jean M. Forney's DNA test results posted on Ancestry. She is/was granddaughter of said Lena. The thought that my grandfather Walter E. Shipp had African Ancestry, really unthinkable. Though my Autosomal DNA test filed through Ancestry DNA confirms that I have 1% Mali. What percentage was given to Jean M. Forney I have no idea. If my grandfather had been test I would assume greater percentage.

Other researchers have linked her (Genet Ray) with the Scottish Quaker Family of Rhea, who married into my Hampton Family of that location. I have been able to find a few of my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp's numbers and I have found the same the various Barbados DNA accounts. The present day family of Ray of that location, contains a large span of "Human Color". I have no doubt I have the right group of people.

Hope to add to his various surnames as more people discover the usefulness of DNA testing.
I have four matches surrounding my double Richards line. I have various matches with members of Baylor family, which Frances Baylor was a member who married Humphreys Richards.

Ancestry DNA site "narykids12" this sample from researcher who descend from John Richards (1734-1785) born in King & Queen Co. VA died Stafford Co. VA. Wife Susannah Coleman. This line from their daughter Sarah Richards who married Lt. Walter Graham. This John was brother to my Humphrey Richards.

Farer down my Richards & Edwards line "cwingfielycatts" this researcher descend from another daughter of Maria Richards & Wm. Edwards.

Two samples with share DNA samples and I do not see other links with other families other than Richards. They do not have their lines back as far as I.

"L Besink" descend from Sarah Richards (1765- ) m. 1800 in Fredericksburg, VA to Wm. Smock. Their daughter Elizabeth Smock (1800-1850).

"Walter Shelton 48" descends from Lewis Richards (b. 1763 Culpeper Co. VA, d. 1846 Union Co. KY) m. Lucy V. Hunton.

I have finally finished going through my 120 pages found on Ancestry DNA. A large number of researchers keep their results "Private", so all of their information not used. I just hope they are not allowed to use others material. Then a large number of people do not fill in surnames so that a great amount of DNA material not used.

Hope new entries will turn up in future.

Family Tree DNA has four Denton researcher who have that surname on their list.

I have heard back from one--Karen George is looking for Lincoln Co. KY Denton

John Denton m. Elizabeth Johnston said to be parents of
James Denton (c1760-1827) m. Sarah Clarkson.

She is looking for her line back to Rev. Richard Denton of Yorkshire, England early NY.

The parentage now posted on one Ancestry Tree I do not believe to be correct.
Ancestry DNA file has sample submitted by P.A.T.L.

His line from Abraham Denton & wife Mary Odell through son Joseph Denton (1729-1800) married Ann Hogg their son Isaac Denton (1768-1858) married Rebecca Etheridge.

I descend from Abraham's other son Samuel. This touch is going back 10 generations from me.

His line link with Hogg, this family linked to McKay family. But he does not have McKay in his listing of names. He might share Etheridge ancestry with me way back on my father's father's side.

I have other Denton matches which I have not posted. If you are a descend of Rev. Richard Denton you should be finding these same matches. I do not have special DNA.

John Hampton born in Scotland died 1702 in Monmouth Co. NJ. Was a Quaker and had nine children: Janet, Elizabeth, Lydia, John, David, Andrew, Jonathan, NOAH (my line) & Joseph.

I have isolated 11 kit results as belonging to four of the above children: Noah (4, and one all the way down to Winnie), Andrew (3), John (2) & Lydia (2).

There might be more some of the researchers keep their files private. And I believe Family Tree DNA has more samples, that I have not figured out as of now.

There are Y markers listed in public through Family Tree DNA, showing the differences between the above group and the English Hampton. Now if researchers would only use this new tool.
Found in Ancestry DNA project "hutzler 81" descend of Janet Hampton b. 1668 in Scotland married Robert Rhea.

Her father John Hampton had nine children: Janet (1 kit), Elizabeth, Lydia (2 kits), John (2 kits), David, Andrew (3 kits), Jonathan, Noah (4 kits) & Joseph.

I would like to find out more about David Hampton if he removed to present day WV.

Family Tree DNA has two researchers who have Cooksey in their list of surname.

Gwen Morgan I have heard back from him. His Cooksey line back in MS, trying to link up with Wm. Cooksey of early MD. His line connected with Parks family. If you think he is your cousin he is looking for you.

Mike_Taimi also has an account on Ancestry for the Cooksey name, but his tree is private. So I do not know how he links up to mine.

So if you think you have Cooksey ancestry of early Charles Co. MD, DNA can be found in both Ancestry & Family Tree DNA. My line left MD for western NC then to Logan Co. KY finally to Union Co. KY.

My cousin James F. Hopgood's profile also found in Family Tree DNA. He has the same Cooksey as I.

Filed Ancestry DNA Project researcher "dorseybuck" descend of Ledstone S. Cookey through his son Wilson Cooksey (1783-1859) his son Wilson M. Cooksey (1836-1903).

I descend through Ledstone S. daughter Mary E.

Plenty of Cooksey DNA samples on file Ancestry DNA & Family Tree DNA to match.

Researcher on Ancestry DNA site "chsyles20" ancestors were Joshua Howard & Joanna O'Carroll of early Baltimore, MD. This cousinship goes back 10 generations.

I have had several matches with Gist surname, so that line is solid all the way down to me. I have found one Murray researcher who also matches with me and now another family marrying into the Gist family this Howard. I have confirmed two blood lines coming into that branch of the family.

People have placed on line that Christopher Gist was a member of The Washington Family of VA, back in England. I have really found no evidence that is true. The odds of finding a researcher who decends from that family in England, I do not think possible.

His wife Edith Cromwell, people have linked her to Oliver Cromwell. I do not think the evidence is presented with their pedigree charts.

This proven line:

1. Joshua Howard b. 1665 Manchester, England, d. 1738 Baltimore, MD m. 1686 Baltimore, MD to Joanna O'Carroll born c1668 Ireland, d. 1763 Baltimore, MD. The other researcher through their son Henry Howard

2. Mary Howard b. 1712 Baltimore, MD, d. 1755 NC m. Nathaniel Gist. There is a Y study dealing with this family on Family Tree DNA. Many people have joined DAR with this family.

3. Joshua Gist b. Baltimore, MD, d. c1811 Henderson Co. KY married Elizabeth Kellam, have sheets on this surname to do.
He was at "The Battle of Kings's Mountain". With a couple of cousins and uncle.

4. Nathaniel Gist b. c1785 Greene Co. NC, d. 1843 Morganfield, Union Co. KY. Married Patsy Brooks

5. Nancy Gist b. 24 Sep 1818 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, d. 29 Jul 1879 same location, married Aaron Taylor

6. Mary Ann Taylor b. 11 Nov 1838, d. 25 Nov 1926 Morganfield, Union Co. VA, married Samuel A. Rudd

7. Alice/Allie Rudd b. 29 Sep 1867 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, d. 24 Jul 1947 Mississipppi Co. MO married Henry H. Hopgood

8. Roy D. Hopgood m. Olive O. King

9. Patsy D. Hopgood m. R.E. Shipp

10. Dee Ann Shipp (me) m. Irvin P. Buck Jr.
Ancestry DNA Project stated that I and researcher KathySchramm62 descend of David Hamilton Gist born 1814 died 1894 TX married 1840 Parmelia Clark their son Armstead R. Gist born 1858 died 1897.

My line from his sister Nancy Gist who married Aaron Taylor
