My great-grandmother had a book (only book I have that belonged to her) dealing with Mary Ball, mother of George Washington, because she was "told" by her family members we were related to that Ball Family.

Mike Ball of DNA Project, did response to my request for the Haplogroup for Col. Wm. Ball, ancestor of the said Mary Ball, it is I l.

I got real lucky that a distant Ball cousin of mine-- descendant of Osborn Ball, brother to my John Ball, father of John Washington Ball was also tested "is Rlblb2 or the shorthand notation R-M 269"

A million thanks out to that man !! Don't know his name.

He said that another profile fits the above but he did not additional information about the documented blood line.

It would be nice to have other closer relations tests, but this is a very good start.

I also found another interesting D.N.A site for Mangum Family. They have posted the results for a Mangum man whose marker shows The Duke Marker, for men living in Granville/Orange Co. NC. And they posted they did not WHY !!

I e-mail the web master, but my reponse was returned.

I think I know why the Mangum man is showing a Duke marker. My distant cousin Mary Carrington (daughter of John) was married to Arthur Mangum Jr. and while he was on "his death bed" had an affair with Wm. Duke living the next farm over. They had a son named Green A. Mangum born 1811 and he married but I have no record of the names of his children. Wm. Duke in his will acknowledge that he could have been his son. This is a matter of public record, his will filed in Orange Co. NC. I guess he really was !!!

In any case I will continue to pick away at this D.N.A test results (then I can get a hold of it) trying to apply it to the documentation which I have compiled.

I thought it was Family Tree DNA they were going to try to place the D.N.A of "famous persons" in their data bank. If that's is true that really would help to solve some of these family tales.

I wonder if they have the D.N.A. of President Zachary Taylor to compare to all those present day Taylor researchers who claim descend from him.

I do not.

I have send an e-mail to Family Tree asking the location on their web site where I can find the test results of various surname in their data base.
I have no doubt I am the granddaughter of Walter Eugene Shipp. But now science can help me confirm all his various blood lines that when into making up him and therefore 1/4 of my DNA material.

SCHIPP/SHIPS/SHIPP--as far as I know my Autosomal DNA profile is the only one from my main line of Shipp. However, I have two Autosomal DNA kits which come from another one of the four sons of the emigrate John Frederick Schipp. And one Y maker test also from the same son's line. How these researchers and others who have information in their Family Tree are still in "Fantasy Land" believing the family is English and are descends of Wm. Shipp of early Norfolk, VA. That false statement was made back in the 1950's by Ralph D. Shipp and informally published in his book and all these nice people have taken in the information into their Family Tree. So it must be true.

I have additional DNA material shared with German Families of PA & MD: Schauman, Roth & Frey. I have not figured out how they apply to my direct line. I have documents which clearly shows that Godfrey & his brother Jacob were members of various German Luthern Churches. How people can continue to believe they were English, is beyond me.

BRIDGES--I have four Autosomal Matches with other researchers who claim descend from Wm. Bridges who died Pr.Wm.Co.VA in 1743, but I question some of their documentation. So we might share other DNA from some of their other surnames. My goal for the future is to match with known siblings of my Priscilla Ann Bridges. I am showing DNA matches with researchers studying Row & Cole.

BALL--I have numerous matches with descends of the emigrate Edward Ball of early Middlesex Co. VA. Clearly not related to the family of Wm. Ball, father of Mary Ball who was the mother of George Washington. I have one DNA match with a woman who has MacNeil but her line in TN. I believe my MacNeil line could be another one of those Scottish Prisoners send to the colonies in 1650's.

PILCHER--I have several matches with the suname in NC & TN, but still looking for a match with known sibling of my Athaline Pilcher. Since I have many matches with Jett Researchers who descend from Peter Jett of England & early VA, I know my Pilcher line from Daniel Pilcher was with his second wife Matilda Jett daughter of Francis. He had a wife before Matilda. Believe member of Randall Family of Fauquier Co. VA. Still waiting for Autosomal DNA kit from one of the older children of said Daniel.

EDWARDS--I have a match with a researcher studying Wm. Edwards & Maria Richards, he through their daughter Frances and I through son Bushrod P. Edwards. Still looking for lines from the other children of Gerrard Edwards.

RICHARDS--double line for this surname and my major break came from matches with Baylor researchers. This surname has two blood line back to Emperor Charlemagne.

FLEMING--still looking for additional researchers who descend from Thomas Fleming & Hannah Hulett. I have one match with researcher who has Hulett in her listing of surnames, but I have not heard back. I have this surname back to the emigrate, but waiting for additional DNA material. Lippincott I have matched with 10 other researchers. This family living in early Monmouth Co. NJ has been fully documented.

RAY: As far as the ancestry of Genet Ray, she was the carrier of "L" Mitochondrial DNA which was carried down to my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp.

Just by luck I found my first cousin once removed Jean M. Forney's DNA test results posted on Ancestry. She is/was granddaughter of said Lena. The thought that my grandfather Walter E. Shipp had African Ancestry, really unthinkable. Though my Autosomal DNA test filed through Ancestry DNA confirms that I have 1% Mali. What percentage was given to Jean M. Forney I have no idea. If my grandfather had been test I would assume greater percentage.

Other researchers have linked her (Genet Ray) with the Scottish Quaker Family of Rhea, who married into my Hampton Family of that location. I have been able to find a few of my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp's numbers and I have found the same the various Barbados DNA accounts. The present day family of Ray of that location, contains a large span of "Human Color". I have no doubt I have the right group of people.

Hope to add to his various surnames as more people discover the usefulness of DNA testing.

There are tons of material any researcher can use for studying the Gist family of MD, first book by Dorsey "Christopher Gist of Maryland and some of his descendants 1679-1957"

Now, we have on line "Fine a Grave" where a number of these family members can be found.

My Gist ancestor Joshua Gist was at the Battle of Kings Mountain with I believe his Uncle and cousins. And through his father living in western NC which later became TN, the family is counted among the First Families of Tennessee. One of my cousin joined their society through Gist family.
Lots of entries counted among DAR.

Researcher Vance Hawkins' gr-gr-grandma was Harriet Guess/Gist born 1818 and died 1886.He is showing a match to my sample #20.

Farer up this line researcher Keith S. Murray is showing a match with couple James Murray & Jemima Morgan, their daughter married Zipparah Murray married Richard Gist.

I believe Y markers have been done for male line of Gist and you can find that on line through Y search.
Found Family Tree DNA Lesie Paul Elder is a 8th Gist Cousin. He descends from Christopher Gist to only son Richard Gist to son Wm. Gist.

I descend from Richards' other son Joshua Gist removed down to NC then to TN.

The Cooksey line intermarried with my Gist Family, which I have confirmed the line through various DNA profiles.

Cookey family does have a y marker project run by Family Tree DNA. Just another "R".

Books have been published about the family, as well as many secondary source material published.

We have four Autosomal kits matching confiming the line of

1. Samuel Cooksey born c1650 England? died 1709 in Charles Co. MD, married to Christian Mary E. Tennison

2. Wm. Cooksey born c1706 Charles Co. MD died 1773 Charles Co. MD married Anne Semmes

3. Ledstone S. Cooksey b. c1760 Charles Co. MD, d. 1826 Russellville, Logan Co. KY,Married Elender

4. Mary E. Cooksey b. 1795 Charles Co. MD, d. c1850 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, Married Josha Taylor

5. Aaron Taylor b. 10 Oct 1812 Russellville, Logan Co. KY, d. 23 Mar 1857 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, Married Nancy Gist.

6. Mary Ann Taylor b. 11 Nov 1838 Union Co. KY, d. 25 Nov 1926 Morganfield, Union Co. KY., Married Samuel A. Rudd
my 2nd great grandparents.

Going back 10 generations.
Family Tree DNA has two researchers who have Cooksey in their list of surname.

Gwen Morgan I have heard back from him. His Cooksey line back in MS, trying to link up with Wm. Cooksey of early MD. His line connected with Parks family. If you think he is your cousin he is looking for you.

Mike_Taimi also has an account on Ancestry for the Cooksey name, but his tree is private. So I do not know how he links up to mine.

So if you think you have Cooksey ancestry of early Charles Co. MD, DNA can be found in both Ancestry & Family Tree DNA. My line left MD for western NC then to Logan Co. KY finally to Union Co. KY.

My cousin James F. Hopgood's profile also found in Family Tree DNA. He has the same Cooksey as I.

At least 11 researchers kits show common DNA material. A number of researcher's results were private so their could be more. I know a few on found on Family Tree DNA.

At least one reseacher takes the family back into England three more generations. Since no documentation is found I will start with my known ancestor:

1. John Rudd b. c1678 some say Yorkshire, England, d. 1749 Chestfield Co. VA. Wife Avis Whitaker. Some have listed her parentage, again no documentation given?

2. Joseph Rudd b. c1712 Henrico Co. VA, d. 1779 Mecklinburg Co. VA, Wife Wilmouth..........?

3. Wm. Rudd b. c1751 Mecklenburg Co. VA, d. c1779 same location, wife name unknown to me.

4. Wm. Henry Rudd b. 1772 Mecklenburg Co. VA, d. 1853 Warren Co. NC, Wife Sarah.........? name from land deed, another wife mentioned in his will to be buried by his wife Emily Thomas.

5. John D./Elijah D. Rudd b. 1805 Granville Co. NC, d. c1868 Morganfield, Union Co.KY m-2 Nancy Rogers. I believe to escape his creditors in NC he removed to KY and changed his first name from John to Elijah. All three of his marriage records found in NC as John D. For the 1850 census who will find his children were living in different household than with him. Guess a matter of money.

6. Samuel Alexander Rudd b. 14 Feb 1837, d. 8 Jul 1882 Morganfield, Union Co. KY, Wife Mary Ann Taylor, their graves on "Fine a Grave". I have a picture of her

7. Alice/Allie Rudd b. 29 Sep 1867 Morganfield, Union Co.KY, d. 24 Jul 1947 East Prairie, Mississippi Co. MO, Husband Henry H. Hopgood.

These were my gr-grandparents. Line back 10 generations.
Heard back from researcher Greg Parris. He has Rudd on his list of surname.

We are 3rd cousins common ancestor Samuel A. Rudd & wife Mary Ann Taylor. His line from their son James Henry through daughter Vera Estell Rudd. My line through their daughter Alice/Allie Rudd. We share: Rudd, Rogers, Kittrell, Taylor, Cooksey, Gist & Brooks. But only have one bit of DNA shared.

I am still trying to figure out the Chromosome Browser and what it might be telling me about degree of cousinship.

We share only 8.35 cm are 3rd cousins and I share larger amount of DNA with Michael L. McKay is his 3rd cousin once removed. We share two separate bits of DNA.

Greg Parris & I only share one bit of DNA on #20 for said 8.35. My cousin James F. Hopgood shows a hit on same location.

It could be the fact I know I have a double line of Sowers and might have a double line of McKay.

I was also thinking it's because we have more common connections. I'd like to see how much our Ohio cousins connect. I'm 8th cousins with the descendants of Andrew McKay who did not intermarry with the Jacob line. Since we also have other common ancestors we might show a closer relationship.

I know Cousin Howard Doster is also a Steer descendant with his McKay/Steer line connecting at the marriage of Ann Collett and William McCune. From then on they descend to him.

At am looking at portions of DNA which I have matching with others and what my son Brandan has picked up.

Looking at Stanley H. Heiskell my Sowers & Hampton Cousin. Brandan picked up none of that material. No match at all.

Looking at your #1 think McKay 35.6 and #15 28.42 Sowers
Comparing Brandan to your #1 34.65and #15 12.35 Sowers

It would appear from these two entries he did not pick up Hampton at all and less of Sowers.

Interesting.

On ancestry five researcher trace their line back to my Wm. Rust & wife Ann Metcalf.

However only one researcher "R.P.B." line it would appear does not share other distant ancestors.

One researcher has Bowling & Denton, another has Bolin, one a descend of my John Carrington and the other also a descend of Daniel Sowers.

Since Ancestry does not have a Chromosome Browser I can't tell where the matching DNA is located.

Boy !! various Rust Family who came from MA. I was not aware of them.
Found Family Tree DNA researcher Tonia V. Spain is about my 9th cousin. My son Brandan still showing match 10th cousin.

The only information she send me that her Nancy Rust was the granddaughter of John Rust & Agnes Clements.

My line from their son Samuel Rust and we removed from VA down to NC then to TN.

Hope someday to find one of our Rust/McKay cousin turning in a sample.

Researcher Walter Dusenbery has submitted a DNA sample under name: Dusenbury or Dusenberry.

His oldest known ancestor John Dusenbury is thought to be related to the Van Doesburg family of New Amsterdam. They arrived in 1636 from Doesburg, Holland.

I have send him a message about this line. I would be interested if said Samuel Dusenbery of NJ & NC were of his family.

The two DNA entirely different.
Reading through Denton Dispatch for a Denton researcher, the newsletter had following information. I do not know if helpful or not.

The Hempstead, NY census of 1698 list: henery Dusenborh, mary Dusenboroh, mary Dusenborh, Samuell Dusenborh and henry Dusenborh Jr.

Looking to prove the parentage of Nancy Denton wife of Jacob Shipman, I have found a number of her Denton cousin DNA samples on file. The emigrate ancestor Rev. Richard Denton.

At least 10 researchers going back to the emigrate ancestor Wm. Odell & Rebecca Brown of Bedfordshire, England. Another researchers has this line back another six generations into England, if others are interested.

The Odell intermixed with our Jobe & our McKay. Some of them would be a distant McKay & Jobe cousins as well.

Ancestry's program does not have a chromosome browser so I can't tell how much DNA material we are sharing.
Family Tree DNA has four Denton researcher who have that surname on their list.

I have heard back from one--Karen George is looking for Lincoln Co. KY Denton

John Denton m. Elizabeth Johnston said to be parents of
James Denton (c1760-1827) m. Sarah Clarkson.

She is looking for her line back to Rev. Richard Denton of Yorkshire, England early NY.

The parentage now posted on one Ancestry Tree I do not believe to be correct.

Found on Ancestry DNA site six DNA kits match all from Edward Ball of early Middlesex Co. VA, he died 4 Sep 1726. He was the sexton of Christ Church, for his entire life. After his death his wife Keziah took over the duties (for pay of course) and took in the poor of the parish for money.

This was not a couple with a lot of funds. People who insist linking them with other rich Ball Families of VA are just wrong.

All my family tales about John Washington Ball being a member of Wm. Ball of VA family were false.

There is a DNA study going on, but they do not break out for researchers the various groups of Ball living in VA nor the rest of the county. My group I believe "R" and above Wm. Ball "I"

I do believe he (Edward) was the emigrate, for I see no evidence he had an old generation helping his family through life.

Edward & Keziah Ball had 12 children and their names and birth dates can be found on Christ Church Parish Records, Middlesex Co. VA. The church is still standing.

Catherine, Arthur, Johannah, Edwards (3 kits), Elizabeth, Kezia, Mary, Ann, Phebe, Daniel (1 kit), Wm. & Benj. (2 kits).

They did not have a son named Valentine Ball. As two researchers have on their DNA listing.

I am sure there are additional matches on Family Tree DNA site.

Ancestry just posted a new Ball Autosomal matches, from emigrate Edward Ball of Christ Church, Middlesex Co. VA

"J.B" descend of John Washington Ball through his son Murray Lewis Ball. Said Murray brother to my great-grandmother Lena (Ball) Shipp
