I am researching my family genealogy and need help in finding the ancestors of Ernest McKay. He would have been born around 1910+or- a few years in Clinton or Wayne County, Ohio. Ernest married one of my aunts (Virginia Hoskins) and they had 2 daughters, JoAnn and Linda (both living). Ernest was a farmer near Cuba/Martinsville,OH and I believe was born and raised in that area. He died on his farm near Cuba about 1948/49. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you obtained his death record? Should have parents names given as would his marriage records.

Have you check the couple Roy B. McKay found on the

1920 Greene Co. VA has a son Earnest (sic) age 14.

1910 Greene Co. VA Roy B. McKay 27 born OH, wife Dora F. 24 born in OH, Ernest P. 4 years, Mildred E. 2.

1900 Greene Co. VA on Ceasar Creek: N.S. McKay 44 born in OH, Ella ...? daughter, son Roy 17 years

1880 Greene Co. VA on Ceasar Creek: Newton McKay 23, Ella O. Rachel 55 mother

1870 Greene Co. VA Spring Valley 27 Jul 1870: Rachel McKay 46, Mary E. 18 years, Newton S. 14.

1860 Green Co. VA George McKay 56 VA living in Spring Valley, image would not down loan.

If your problem was mine--I would check records in Greene Co. OH

1. George McKay born in VA 1804 m. Rachel..........? might look marriage records in OH

2. Newton S. McKay b. 1856 in OH m. Ella O..........? might look marriage records in OH.

3. Ernest P. McKay b. 1906 in OH

Some of the descendants of Robert MacKay Sr. settled in Clinton & Warren Co. OH, but I do not see the above George McKay as being among them.

You might try to contact some of the members of the MacKay family that ancestors lived in that area of the county.

L.D.S. library does have the 1850 census on line.

Good luck with your research. Let "us" know if you find a connection.

The 1860 Greene Co. VA image of the household of George McKay came through and his household: George McKay 56 born in VA, Sarah 43 & Annis (female) 4. NO wife named Rachael/Rachel.

Also this family group submitted by Marilyn B. Davis to L.D.S. computer bank. She does not have George McKay ancestors posted and she gave him a middle name of Washington. I have no idea, of course, her sources. His wife was Sarah Elizabeth Ferguson. So she might be a Ferguson researcher. She submitted a birth & death dates with day and month and place of burial for George.

There was a George McKay listed on the 1820 Norfolk Co. VA census.

I still do not think he was a member of the Robert MacKay family.

I can't seem to find Rachel McKay (widow) on the earlier census for Greene Co. VA. So I do not know the name of her husband. Said George McKay for 1860 was the only male McKay that was indexed. I would still check the original records for Greene Co. VA.

If you know of a male McKay connected with your Ernest, Michael is part of a D.N.A. study for MacKay/Mckay etc.... he would love that kind of input.

L.D.S. fiche #6051043 #2 listing of entries burials Maple Corner Cemetery

George McKay died 7 Jul 1862, died 59 years,10 months and his wife

Sarah E. McKay died 24 Jul 1865, died 47 years, 11 months,2 days

A number of Ferguson also buried in same cemetery.

There was a George Washington McKay who lived in Clinton Co. OH married to Emma Daniels, buried in McKay Cemetery of Clinton Co. OH, son of George McKay & Mary Ferguson.

I believe the researcher who placed information about the above couple in computer bank mixed together two different George McKay.

The man in Greene Co. OH had no middle name Washington. I still do not think he was connected with the desendants of Robert MacKay Sr.

L.D.S. #6104127 #1 Vol. 9 of Cemetery Records for Greene Co. VA has entries buried in Woodland Cemetery, 281 Dayton Ave, Xenia, OH section A

McKay, George Albert 1850-1908
McKay, Ada (Peterson) 1852-1929 wife of George
McKay, Mollie C. 1869-1901
McKay, Nellie G. 1881-1962

Jones, Thomas S. 1846-1921
Jones, Sarah J. (McKay) 1857-1932

Found on 1870 Greene Co. VA household of Samuel S. McKay 45 years born in OH, both parents born in VA, Angelina 44 born in VA, Albert 19 born OH, Louisa 17 OH, Oscar 15 OH, Sarah 13 OH, Irvin 4. Said Samuel S. McKay also found on 1880 Greene Co. VA, and some of his sons have started their own households.

Said Samuel S. McKay born c1825 in OH and parents in VA, but I do not see this group related to the descendants of Robert MacKay Sr.

It seems 1850 & 1860 have not been abtracted correctly, for McKay surname doesn't come up.

I also found surname spelled as McCoy in the county records, but did not record those entries.

Check L.D.S. search lab on line the actual death record for:

Newton S. McKay died 27 Mar 1914 in Caesar Creek, Greene Co. OH buried in Woodland Cemetery, Greene Co. OH, born 30 Jul 1856, parents given as Moses McKay & Rachel Faulkner, Roy McKay gave the information.

So it would appear these McKay were descendants of Robert MacKay Sr.

Robert Mackay Sr. son
Robert Mackay/McKay Jr. son
Moses McKay m. A. Shinn son
George McKay m. Mary Ferguson son
Moses McKay m. Rachel Faulkner son said
Newton S. McKay

Moses & Rachel (Faulkner) McKay found on page 52 of my MacKay book. I did not list their issue. Other people have submitted information about this couple in various computer banks and they have added middle names which I have not found recorded in legal public documents.

If this turns out to be your line, you will want to contact the other researchers.

Good luck.

It would appear I need to read my own book, Samuel Ferguson McKay was the son of George McKay & Mary Ferguson. And brother of the said Moses McKay. I will have to look at the census record again, I thought the name given as Samuel S. McKay.

In any case I have legal records showning his parents names as just George McKay and mother just Mary Ferguson. I believe said Mary Ferguson was named in trust fund filed in Frederick Co. VA with the connection of Ephraim Garrison in 18th Aug 1813.

I don't believe so but who knows, I could be wrong. Are you a descendant of Ernest from Clinton Co. Ohio?
