Warren Co. VA Land Deed Book D, 208, dated 19 Apr 1849, probated 20 Apr 1849, Mary AMISS for "love and affection" & $1 paid by Joseph Amiss & John H. Steel to hold in trust for the benefit of her daughter Eliza Ann STROTHER (wife of John Strother) her house with lot in Front Royal in the middle of Chester Street at Dr. Hanson Dorsey's corner, stake in Slab Alley, corner of the lot of Hamilton Steel and corner of Catherine Steel, it being 1/2 of a larger lot said Mary Amiss had purchased from Christopher Kendrick, not to be use to pay off her husband's debts and upon her death to be used by her two children (not named), if all dies without issue the lot to be given to the other heirs of said Mary Amiss. The value of the lot given as $200 and shall be considered part of her portion of her mother's estate.
Found on the 9 Sep 1850 census: Eliza A. Strother 43 years, Mary C. Strother 13 years and Maria J. Strother 10 years.
Warren Co. VA marriage has "Bailes, Wm. A.C. 28 years of age, single, born & living in Hanley, NC, farmer, parents W. & D. Bailes, married on 20 Jun 1863 to Mary C. STROTHER 24 years of age, single, born in Stafford Co. VA, living in Warren Co. VA, parents John & Eliza Strother, married by Rev. Robert R.S. Hough (Methodist Minister)"
