According to Jacob McKay he willed the house which once belonged to Robert Mackay/McKay Jr., just lost by fire--to his youngest son Oscar Caleb McKay.
I will be viewing Warren Co. VA land deeds 1836 to 1871 and hope to trace the ownership of the property. He must have transfer the property before 1870.
Oscar C. McKay found on the 1850 Warren Co. VA, can't locate him 1860.
Thanks to Heritage Quest I have found him on the following census:
17 Jun 1870 living Bedford, Lincoln Co. MO: Oscar C. McKay 34 born in VA, wife Mary E. 33 VA, their children Emma E. 11, Virginia L. 6, Lena 10 months.
21 Jun 1880 living in Bedford, Lincoln Co. MO: O.C. McKay 45, his wife Mary 43, their children Jennie 16, Lena 10.
23 Jun 1900 living in Bedford, Lincoln Co. MO: Oscar McKay 65 years born Jun 1835 VA, wife Mary 64 years born May 1835, married 41 years, she had 9 nine children, only three alive in 1900, none living with them.
Not listed on 1910 census for the above location. A check of Lincoln Co. MO records might yield more information.
It would appear from the above information, that the information I was given about him having a second wife Sarah Hefflebower was false. Also it would appear he had no male children that lived to adulthood.

1. Robert Mackay/McKay Jr. built the house @1731 and he gift the portion to this son
2. Jacob McKay Sr. received the land in 1765 from his father and he gift the portion with the house in 5 Sep 1809 then 340a,3 roods to his son Jacob, before he removed to OH.
3. Jacob McKay Jr. received the land from his father in 1809 and I can't find any record showing that he removed from the property, still need to find a land transfer to next Jacob III. Some of these records could be also filed in Shenandoah Co. VA.
4. Jacob McKay III, the one married to Elizabeth Antram, both buried in Nineveh Cemetery, his will mentioned that the land purchased from his brother Jesse. Still need to find out what happened to his brother. In his will he gifted his dwelling house to his youngest son
5. Oscar C. McKay he removed to MO and he sold it to a cousin 1856 Robert S. McKay (I have just seen the index) need to read the actual land deed
this ends the direct from father to son McKay line @122 years
6. Robert S. McKay his will directed 1862 his lands divided among his wife and children. According to the article on Michael's site, the portion including the old house was taken up by his son Robert McKay
7. Robert McKay married 1880 to Lucy B. Buck they lived in the house until his death 1915 (according to the article posted on Michael's site), both buried in Nineveh Cemetery, VA
I think this ends the possession of the house in the hands of McKay family about 181 years
8.The estate of Robert McKay (according to Warren Co. VA Land Deed index) sold the property to H.G. Megeath in 1917. I can find on the 1920 Cedarville, Warren Co. VA the household: Herbert G. Megeath 67, wife Emma A. 67, living with them his son-in-law Robert T. McCarty 38, his wife their daughter Acton? 35, their children Charlotte 4 3/4, Robert H. 2 1/2
If others can add additional records to the transfer of said tract, I would appreciate the effort.

Well, I've always been told that two of the children of Charles Robert McKay and Mary Elizabeth Heflybower were born in the McKay House. These were Isabel and Aurelia McKay.
Now, whether or not they actually owned the house I do not know. Perhaps they were living there and his parents still owned the property or perhaps C.R. and M.E. McKay were the owners. I do know that they later moved to Browntown, VA because that's where their son Charles M. McKay was born. They were the last of our family to live in the old McKay home before it was sold to other people.

Your input really does not disagree with the few facts I know about the exchange of the property out of McKay hands.
Said Isabelle L. & Aurelia M. McKay could have just been born at their grandparents house before sold in 1917 to H.G. Megeath. I have found them living in the area 1920.
I know I will be able to get the land deed from Oscar C. McKay to Robert S. McKay, I do not know if Library of VA has the actual deeds on film for the later deeds.
Still nice to know who were the last generation of McKay to be born in the house.

It would appear from the census 1920 & 1930 that Herbert G. Megeath was not living for the 1930 census. He and his wife have some children listed born & died recorded Warren Co. VA census. And a son WWI vetern buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
The best I can do is look at the Warren Co. VA Index between 1920 to 1930 and see if H.G. Megeath sold the property.

I've been told that Aurelia was always proud to be the last of the family born in the old house. It's fortunate she didn't have to witness this recent event in her lifetime.
She and my grandfather Winston L. McKay were 1st cousins because her mother Mary (Heflybower) McKay was a sister to my great-grandmother Nannie (Heflybower) McKay.
Plus, she is a descendant of Moses McKay who moved to Ohio with his wife and children (except Robert S.) through Robert S.
Looks like the transfer from Oscar to Robert was similar to the way Erin was transferred. It was in the branch of Margaret (McKay) Funsten until getting sold to another branch of the McKay family.
Looks like Oscar sold it to his sister Nancy A. and brother-in-law Robert S. McKay.

Heritage Quest did not index 1930 census correctly, but I did figure out how to use the images without using their index of the names.
Found on 1930 Cedarville District 17 Apr 1930 on State Highway 7, bottom of the page, top of the page Chapel Road
Herbert G. Megeath 78, wife Emma F. 79 and their daughter Aston? J. McCarty her husband and their children (born in DC), rest born in VA. Living on Highway 7.
About three pages after them Minnie P. McKay and her household and Hubert F. McKay and his wife and children. Also listed as living on State Highway 7.
The most important land deed concerning the transfer of the house of Robert McKay Jr.
Jacob McKay to Oscar C. McKay we have the will
Oscar C. McKay to Robert S. McKay I will be able to read actual deed.
Robert S. McKay to his son Robert should be able to read actual deed.
Estate of Robert McKay selling to H.G. Megeath will only really have year of transfer.
H.G. Megeath his transfer surely will happen before 1952 should be able to get the year and who lived on the property.
According to the article Howard L. Morris and family had the property in 1976.
I will start the abtracting the land deed for Warren Co. VA 1836 to 1871 and I hope to fill in important information concerning my various families.

I've updated the page for the Robert McKay Jr. house to reflect the recent events and also add the list of people in our family who owned it.

Megeath family still on the property 1930, according the Federal Census.
1940--from H.B.McKay's notes people used the wood inside the house for firewood, information from Gene Williams article about the property.
1941 property purchased by Robert Bennett of Pittsburg, PA and his daughter Mrs. A.R.I. Dohme & her husband lived on the property. This information I found in Hunter B. McKay's notes. His source an article by Gene Williams. He has recorded also his various visits to various McKay homes in the near.
1976 the family of Howard L. Morris according to article on Michael L. McKay did updates on the property.
I would think Warren Co. VA Historical Society should have a more complete listing of the owners of the property.
Like I have already said my main focus of the owners of the property are first seven owners. The ownership of this property could be the evidence to show "we" had three Jacob's in our Robert Mackay line. Hunter B. McKay knew of the land deed between Oscar C. McKay to Robert S. McKay, but for some reason he did not copy that deed. He did copy word for word the ones by Jacob McKay & his wife Elizabeth. I hope the deed by Oscar C. McKay will give more information about at least the two former owners of the property. It will also be interesting to see the acreage with the dwelling house to reduced down to 8 acres.
Also the main reason I am tracking slaves owned by our group of McKay's households--is in the hope the transfer of said slaves will show line of descent of my blood line. Did our McKay just purchase the slave from others? Or were they devised to them by their father's or mother's family. I hope the latter is the case.
By the end of August I hope to have read the land deeds for Warren Co. VA 1836 to 1871 and hope to have new information.
I have the Chancery Index for Warren Co. VA to read next week, but they give just a shadow of the information that should be found in the actual court files. The State of VA & L.D.S. library doesn't offer those records on film.

FWIW:
Howard L. Morris and wife Laura V. sold 0.2265 acres of the property 15 Dec 1990 to the Green Valley Baptist Church which is situated between the McKay house and the Winchester Pike (Rt.522 North)which the church uses for additional parking.
