<b>From Betty Powers:
Good Morning Everyone-
I'm emailing to let all of you know about a booklet that we are having reprinted with some history of the students who attended Rockland School. Here's a little bit about the booklet:
It was edited by Ben Weddle and originally printed in 1995. Ben had interviewed many of the students who had attended Rockland School and they all shared what they remembered best about their days there, the teachers and their daily activities. The book was entitled "I Don't Remember Much, but......". Many favorite cousins/folks were interviewed including some of the following: The Sowers'-Myra, Louise, Bob, Virginia and Charles Thomson; The Powers-Bill, Dudley and Marvin, Others-Donald Simpson, Carroll Grubbs, Lucille Fritts, Alice Rhodes and many others. There are several teachers mentioned including Lucille Fritts, Charlotte Powers, Leslie Trenary and others. There are pictures of the "Five Pointers" of 1927 at the parade in Front Royal and other events such as the "May Pole" Queen Mildred Sowers.
Their stories are interesting and some are quite funny. Ben did a fine job of putting it all together.
The first printing sold out years ago and with peeked interested about the history of the school and our genealogy, we at the school decided to have a second printing. The booklet will be available as of November 22 at a cost of $15.00 each. It will be available at the Rockland School Arts and Craft Shop which is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 1pm-5pm from March 1-December 31 or you can notify me by emailing me or calling me at 540-636-7356 and I will reserve your order for you.
The stories in this booklet really makes us realize just how far we've come in the last 80-100 years. The thought of just how many changes our parents and grandparents must have experienced and marveled at in their time is evident in these interviews.
If you're interested, please contact me or visit the Rockland Schoolhouse before the end of December. At the Schoolhouse there is also a cookbook put together by members of the Rockland Community, it was compiled back in the early 1980s and it sells for $6 each.
Both are available just in time for Christmas.
Hope to hear from you and/or to see you soon.
Thanks, Betty
