I received an e-mail message from Anne Leyden and I wanted her to post the following information, but it seems she wants me to pass along the information.

"Hello, Dee Ann. This is Anne Leyden in Jacksonville, FL. My g-g-grandfather, Cesario Bias, worked for John C. Sowers in the mid-1820's. In trying to reconstruct Cesario's life. I have done research on some of the other people he knew. Here is an obituary for Sowers:

Joy, Charles Austin, contributor, "Obituary Notices: Watchman of the South, "Virginia Magazine of History and Genealogy, Volume XXVIII, No. 2 (5 January 1990) "Departed this life Friday morning last John C. Sowers Esq. Elder of the Presbyterian Church. (19 October 1843)"

Publication was on Thursday the 19th; he died on Friday, 13 October, 1843. This is on ancestry.com if you have access to it."

Anne"

My neighbor has Ancestry.com on line (cost $150 to $350 yearly) so I could try to see if I can find John C. Sowers' obituary that way. Our public library as the site and Michael you might check Handley Library they might have it "free" to the public. The L.D.S. library did have the service, but they had some kind of "disagreement" with Ancestry. Com and they no longer have the service at their various centers.

I believe a person has posted messages about his ancestor John C. Sowers on your web page. If he wants her e-mail address I will pass that along to that person. I have no idea if she has any additional information about said John C. Sowers or not.

John C. Sowers was also a Justice of the Peace for Augusta Co. VA and I am finding bits & pieces of his dealing in Frederick Co. VA in land deeds before he removed down to Augusta Co. VA.

We already have posted his will on this site.

I found today a cemetery book compiled by Elizabeth R. Frain dealing with burials at Union Co. Cemetery of Leesburg, Loudoun Co. VA, listed the family plot of Robert L. Sowers.

He was the son of Daniel H. & his first wife Frances A. Oden Sowers.

"Robert L. Sowers birth 1847/01/06 cause Nephritis, age 78 years, birth 1847/01/06, death 1925/12/14 burial 1925/12/16"

and his wife

"Harriett Ashton Eskridge Sowers birth 1848/04/03, death 1930/04/30 age 82 years, burial 1930/05/02, cause Prenon, wife of Robert L. Sowers"

They had a few of their children buried in the same family plot.

Our public library will be moving to their new building so they will be shut down until 26th Jan 2008, so I will not be able to order additional films from Richmond, VA. I am sure further information can be found for this branch of the Sowers Family.

I will be adding all the new information I am finding out in my new Sowers book.

Michael has other pictures on his site and I sure he would like to add them to his collection.

Check out all the information already posted about the Sowers & Kerfoot Families on this site. He has wills, pictures of people and their houses.

You can post any information about your branch of Sowers here and I will pick up the information.

I will be collecting information for myself from public records. That way I know where the information came from for use in my new Sowers books.

The cemetery is clearly marked on modern maps. I have been to Leesburg many times, just learned of the cemetery last week.

I have a double line from Jacob Sr. to his son Daniel Sr. and I believe Michael one line from said Jacob Sr./Daniel Jr. Our lines posted here on this site.

Good luck with your research.
