I have the marriage book by John Vogt & T. Wm. Keithly, Jr. "Frederick County, Marriages 1738-1850"

As I am going through Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds if I see a marriage implied between two people and their marriage not found in the above book, I will post a message.

The same kind of information can be found in my will books.

Land Deed Book 30,456, the couple Presly Nevill & his wife Nancy (late Morgan and daughter of Gen. Daniel Morgan) living in Pittsburg, Alleheny Co. PA, dated 20 Mar 1807, probated 31 Aug 1807, they are selling her portion of her father's estate 424a in Frederick Co. VA, the monies to be given to Abigail Morgan (widow of the late Gen. Daniel Morgan).
Frederick Co. VA Deed Book 67, page 112, date 13 Oct 1838, probate 13 Oct 1838, Hannah Robinson of Frederick Co. VA gifted certain named moveable property to her "son" Dangerfield BRUTUS. Wit. by James H. Carson

I suspect the above mentioned persons are African-American, but need more documentation. Check 1850 census.

Frederick Co. VA Book 54, 252 dated 11 Aug 1828, probate 12 Aug 1828 stated that John REED and Elizabeth LAUCK plan to marry, for $1 paid by George D. Harrison to hold in trust for her use all the property devised to her by her late father Henry CRUM.

John Vogt's marriage book has

Elizabeth Crum & John Lauck 30 Mar 1812

But no marriage for a marriage between Reed & Lauck, either the marriage did not take place or was not recorded.
Frederick Co. VA Land Deed Book 67, page 188 dated 8th Nov 1838, probate 6 Dec 1831, the couple Wade W. HAMPTON & his wife Catherine E. living in Page Co. VA used her property that would be coming to her upon the death of Mrs. Mary Lauck (widow of Abraham Lauck of Winchester, VA who died 10th Jan 1835), his widow to enjoy his real estate for her natural life, upon her death said Catherine E. Hampton allotted 1/4 portion of the whole.

I check John Vogt's marriage books for Frederick, Page & Shenandoah and no marriage given for said couple.

Frederick Co.VA Land Deed 53,363, dated 5 Jan 1828,7 Jan 1828, stated that Thomas CASTLEMAN to marry Martha P. TAYLOR, John Vogt's Marriage Book does have their marriage listed 8th Jan 1828, but the abtraction does not record that she was a widow.

Earlier marriage listed for Bushrod TAYLOR & Patsey STUBBLEFIELD on 29th Jan 1801

Object of the deed to hold all the property of said Martha P. Taylor devised to her by ther late dec'd husband Bushrod Taylor.

Researchers will find all three surnames in Frederick Co. VA records.
Frederick Co. VA Land Deed Book 68,315 dated 4 Dec 1838, probate 27 Apr 1840, marriage agreement between James STUBBLEFIELD of Frederick Co. VA and Lucy BULLARD of Spotsylvania Co. VA. She the daughter of the late Richard Bullard and her share of father's estate real estate known as NO7 in Spotsylvania Co. VA and slaves: Madison, Catherine, Sally, Lewis, Clara, Rose, Wm. & Maria. All other personal property, bonds and cash held in trust by Coleman C. Beckham for her sole use.

No record of their marriage in Frederick Co. VA, they could have been married in Spotsylvania Co. VA.

They could be the couple listed on 1850 Frederick Co. VA census: James Stubblefield 71 years & Lucy 71 years.

Frederick Co. VA Land Deed Book 35, 98, dated 2 Feb 1813, probated 5 Apr 1813, the couple Morris ELLIS & his wife Mary living in Hampshire Co. VA, sold to George Smith of Frederick Co. VA. Said Mary's dower rights to the estate of her late husband "Jeremiah Smith the second" late of Frederick Co. VA tract lying on both sides of Back Creek.

John Vogt's marriage book does not have a marriage between a Jeremiah Smith & Mary .......?.

Her second marriage with Morris Ellis, surname given as Smith

Morris Ellis & Mary Smith on 26 Apr 1801 (she was a widow, not her family name)
I have been researching Mahlon Clarke Taylor of New Jersey and New York, whose father was also Mahlon Taylor of Troy, New York, New Jersey and Loudon, Virginia. Unfortunately there were numerous Mahlon Taylors and one line was Mahlon K. Taylor, the son of Timothy TAYLOR and Letitia KIRKBRIDE. the K almost certainly standing for Kirkbridge. I can share with you what I have found about Mahlon C. Taylor if you e-mail me.

Thank you for taking the time to post information on Michael's site. I have finished my Frederick Co. VA Project, some time ago. I am now abtracting Shenandoah Co. VA Land Deeds.

My Taylor line lived in SC to GA to KY and not related to the ones in Frederick Co. VA.

Have you check Family Tree D.N.A project for Taylor surname ? You might find others working on your particular Taylor Family.

Good luck with your research.

Frederick Co. VA Land Deed Book 57, 55 dated 15 May 1830, probate 24 Jul 1830, couple Nathan NEWPORT & his wife ELIZABETH of Belmont Co. OH, she heir of Thomas Fawcett Jr. late of Frederick Co. VA, sold her rights to a tract containing 145 1/2a in Frederick Co. VA.

Stated that the will of Thomas FAWCETT dated 26th Jun 1812 devised to his wife for her natural life said tract or she or his three eldest sons (not named) would agree to sell it. The widow is not deceased and the children want to sell the said tract.

The land does not name her as his daughter, just "heir of Thomas Fawcett" the will named her as his daughter. The other children named as well.

The couple could have married in OH.
I am looking for a connection to James Larue of Guernsey Co Ohio to Jabez Larue. I have read that Jabez died without issue. What about his brothers?
Thanks, Maggie

My ancestry search has lead me repeatedly to the names on your list and wondered if you could help me. My 3rd great grandfather was Samuel Sperry 1817- 1856, his brother was ezra sperry 1807 in VA, his sister elizabeth sperry porter both 1811 in either VA or PA, i have their father Joseph Sperry born about 1799, married peggy perry in Shenandoah Va on 2/25/1811. I beleive Joseph was an orphan or Jacob Sperry left to and John silver and his siblings to a jacob lantz. Joseph parent i beleive are jacob sperry and catherine lauck. I think jacob was the son of Nicholas Sperry. And information you might have would be appreciated. My email is wndwalker01@hotmail.com.

My late great uncle Hubert Francis McKay (by marriage) and husband to my great-aunt Bessie McKay (sister to my grandmother Daisy L. McKay Shipp) is posted on my Ancestry Tree. He was my McKay cousin by blood. In his triple line of Mackay/McKay he has Perry and Sperry ancestry. I have placed on my Ancestry Tree his links from Mackay/McKay with Perry and Sperry families.

I do not know if any of his direct descends have done their DNA test, but I have matches with researchers in Ancestry who have these families on their chart. So DNA of these families in Ancestry Gene Pool. You just have to submit your own sample.
And I do not know if any are actively doing genealogy. They are the ones you would want to find. Perhaps Michael might have their e-mail address.

You should check Family Tree DNA Project Perry (has a great site) but Sperry has only 10 samples. So my guess there is DNA in Family Tree Gene Pool as well. You can also check Y Search and e-mail people who have submit their samples. Some might be from the direct line who you are seeking.

State of VA library does have Shenandoah Chancery Suit on line, so you might see if some original records dealing with Perry and Sperry families are on line. Last time I check L.D.S. library does NOT have VA land deeds on line for free, so to see the original records you will have to order them on film and read them at one of their libraries.

I still have two Shenandoah Co. VA Land Deed 1810-1820 for $25 and 1820-1830 for $30. Check or money order to me

In Book CC dated 1823 the 10 children of James Perry (his widow Amy) some of his children living in Muskingum Co. OH some named: Benj. H., Samuel, Sarah dec'd her husband David Palmer, William and wife Lucy living in Oh, Elizabeth and Peggy Sperry (wife of Joseph and daughter of James). Missing names of four others.

There is a direct link with these families living in Shenandoah Co. VA and removed to the area of OH which you are looking. Hope you are check the records you need in OH first.

Since you are looking for children of Joseph Sperry and Peggy Perry, all I can tell you directly the parentage of said Peggy. I have not figured out if Hubert F. McKay's ancestor Pierce Perry is the brother of said James Perry or not. Other have said Pierce son of Pierce Jr.

His Mary C. Sperry who married David McKay, others say daughter of Nicholas Sperry. Again I do not know if said Nicholas brother of above Joseph Sperry.

But all the ancestor of H.F. Mckay, his Perry and Sperry appear to be related to the families of Joseph Sperry and Peggy Perry.

At the moment I am not working on Shenandoah Co. VA or OH. If I find out more about the linkage of H.F. McKay's ancestors Perry & Sperry link up with the ones you are looking I will post that new information.

Good luck.
