It shouldn't be a problem if you ordered the testing kit through Family Tree DNA. Most members in our group who had their DNA tested did it through them. Other companies may test markers that Family Tree DNA doesn't test which is the case for Junior McKay. Plus Family Tree DNA can easily convert the test results to Y-search.

Once you get his results back you should go ahead and set up a Y-search account.

I'm also a participant in the Kee DNA study which is where I found my matches with Justin and Richard.
Yes, I got it through Family Tree.

Have a nice day.

Then if everything goes well I should be flagged by them about a match once his test results are posted.

Dee,

I saw that program and it was really interesting They had to have had really good scientists working on them BUT what I got back was kind of a swirl over the world of where my ancestors originated then they broke it down to how many points of countries in which I had markers such as 39-United Kingdom, 25-Scotland, Wales-4, 61-Ireland, England-43,Great Briton-5 and British Isles-5. I believe that my markers were tested against other person's markers who have been tested in this program from these countries and sent me who I matched.

I think in the future they will be able to descern between Picts, Vikings, etc. but not as of yet. I would be very interested in that.

My email is bibby.appleby@netcare-il.com. If you like send me your email and I will email my results to you so you can see what it all looks like. It's a lot different than the tv program. I'm still trying to figure out the site.

The term Britain, Great Britain, United Kingdom political term coined during the reign of Queen Anne. Britain made up from England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland.

Southern Ireland outside Great Britain, would assume showing Michael's "Celtic" Y marker.

Of course, the "English" or "Scotland" could be the same as well.

Which RI marker are they giving you ?

I am proud to announce that I finally got the skin out of my brothers mouth and have officially been notified that they have begun testing. We should have tentative results by April 24. It's easy to lead a brother to the kit but you can't make him scrape!!!

Dee, I wish all of this was as easy as they make it seem on PBS.

Here's hoping that he didn't eat before he scraped.

Wondering if you are still around ? What happened with your brother's DNA test?

Another researcher gave me the address for on line "The Gentic Genealogist" and I have posted the address.

I know where I need to find the documentation about our Robert without the DNA test results. The problem will become if the documents still exist in this county or in GB.

Your test is more helpful to the people who have not documented their blood lines back as we have.

I need to find Robert again in NJ with the hope the record will point back to MA or elsewhere. Nothing short of this will do to prove our line.

Does the DNA testing give you the number of generations back in time that the Key researchers & our MacKay line came from a common ancestor? If the answer is Scotland then I seriously doubt we would never find documentation. The records in early 1600's Scotland or England are very spotty. And only a small percent have been filmed by L.D.S. church.

I have not found the records to show that the MacKay prisoners who fought together against Cromwell were related. It could turn out they and others on the list of different surnames all came from the same small village. I would expect back in time they might have a common ancestor.

If you do not have a listing of the prisoners, let me know. I have abtracted from Dodson book his listing and I have a second list taken from the Suffolk Co. MA land deed books. The latter list the names have not been modernized.

According to the piece on WETA about five African-American living in US, the female test does show the racial groups of European, Southeastern Asian & African. The latter I believe they have only mapped five different groups in Africa. The second group they claim would indicate our "Native American". The first grouping speaks for itself. They had a map of Europe with the groups they had mapped. I do not know if they would still have a link to the program on their web site or not. It was stated that 15% to 20% of African-American males in this county show European "Y" for their main male line. They did tests for them with their female side to show were in Africa their line came from within the small sample they have for Africa.

It is all interesting, but doesn't help me produce records about our Robert.

I also have the surname MacNeil among the Scottish Prisoners-- some were taken to MA and some to VA. I am looking at the ones send to Lancaster Co. VA, next to Middlesex Co. VA where my oldest known John MacNeil lived before his son John H. removed to Fauquier Co. VA. That would be very interesting if two different branches of my family fought in the same battles--Dunbar & Worchester.

I do not see my Fleming family in the same situation. Still looking for Thomas Fleming in Frederick Co. VA.

I am also looking at my Taylor family of SC, for I think they came from the Barbados into SC, some of the Scottish Prisoners were taken to that location. I have a lot of work to do in SC before I can take that jump.

Why Beatrice Mackey Doughtie & Hunter B. McKay did not dig into this group of MacKay, I do not know. They both knew about them. Makes we a still nervous. In any case, see how far we have come since Hunter B. McKay's time in our research !! Perhaps we will be the generation who solves the 80 year mystery. Hunter B. McKay started the Family Research in Nov of 1927.

Let's keep each other posted.
Years ago another researcher told me my Thomas Fleming was born in Scotland and lived in Fairfax Co. VA and then removed to Frederick Co. VA.

I finally found the time to check out the records at The Fairfax Public Library.

Found in Fairfax Co. VA Will Book E page 160-163 the will of Thomas Fleming dated 7 Apr 1786 probated 18 Sep 1786, named as his wife Betty Fleming to enjoy his entire estate for her natural life, after death divided among his daughters: Bridget, Betty, Kitty, Nancy, Sally and two granddaughters: Betty Kirk & Hannah Harriet Kirk.

Add to this record a land deed in Fairfax Co. VA filed on 9th Apr 1794 by couple Eli Valett of Baltimore, MD & his wife Betty "late Betty Fleming daughter of Thomas Fleming" they sold her share of various lots in the town of Alexandria, on Duke Street. Also mentioned as her other sisters: Bridget Kirk, Catherine, Sarah & Ann. Her mother was dead at the time they posted the land deed.

I am sure other records on the above people can be found in the town of Alexandria or Fairfax Co., VA, but since I do not belong to their group I will not be collecting further information.

It might be other records filed in Fairfax Co. VA might include the birth location for the above Thomas Fleming, but since my group doesn't belong to the above people I will not be collecting more about them. Perhaps others can use the above information.

Before I knew of your match to the George family, I ran across a item in the early MA records, while looking for our Mackay. A woman with the surname George (I forget her first name) was whipped in public for have a illegitmate child in in the early 1660's. No mention of the father's name. If had known about the surname I would have made a note. Perhaps more information will come up on that surname. A connection with MacKay & George in the 1300's seriously doubt we will never find a record for that.

The only other information I have on that surname was in Fauquier Co. VA in the 1800's. Much too late for our use.

I looked at the "Coy Family History" again today. It is a disappointing book in a way, because it does not address the other Mackay prisoners, just Daniel Mackay. It speaks only of the surname in general terms, which can be found in any book about Scottish Surnames. No home location for said Daniel Mackay. I have no idea if the birth place for him-- some have placed in L.D.S. computer is real or make up.

There are modern Coy family members bearing the surname living in MI published in this book:

1. Matthew Allan Coy b. 4 Oct 1979 Hudson, MI

2. Nathan Howard Coy b. 3 Jul 1981 Hillsdale MI

3. Anthony Lee Coy b. 11 Dec 1983 Hillsdale, MI.

Their line of Maccoy/Mackay from Scotland, MA, CT, NH, Vermont, NY into Canada, MI. If it were possible to compare a test with them it would be very interesting.

They have connected their line to Daniel, but I think their oldest known MacKay came from one of the other prisoners. Daniel left a will in 1711 no Archibald mentioned.
Michael, I do not know if you are still interested in finding a connection with Mackay & George Families.

I ran across this George Family living in Cecil Co. MD.

L.S.D. #13822 which has Cecil Co. MD land deeds:

Book 4, page 507: A statement by Sidney George on 22nd Apr 1749 that the will of Joshua George father of said Sidney & his sister Alice, that they knew their father's wanted to free his slave Sarah (mulatto and daughter of Jenny) but omitted in his will.

I do not know what became of this these people, perhaps other will make use of this information. I really do not if Sidney was male or female.

The individual with the last name of George in our Y-DNA study plans to upgrade his testing results to either a 32 or a 64 marker test. I don't remember which. When he has his results we'll see if he matches more closely as the rest of the people in our group. If that is the case it could open up some questions about his George line.

Michael, I'm getting into DNA and have had mine done but now I'm getting ready to nag my brother into it and had read somewhere on this site (I think) that you recommended a certain place from which to order the kit.

Could you prime my memory, Please.

Thanks,

caleurk
Found entry in Ancestry DNA bank under Leath, this researcher's line from

Nancy McKay m. Ebenezer Leith
Miriam Leeth (1789-1869) m. Neely C. McGuire

The researcher did not have her line pass Miriam

I do not think I have already posted this DNA match with "Ancienkerry" he descends from Robert Mackay Sr. through second son James Sr.

I am finding when new matches filed with Ancestry, if the researcher has not supplied tree information matches will not show up at that time.
