G. H. Sowers and E. H. Hefflybower were purchasers at the estate sale of my g-grandfather James Grubbs 1 Mar 1887 in Warren County. As these first two family names are fairly prominent in this forum, I wonder if anyone can advise as to where the two families lived? I'm at a 'brick-wall' with g-grandpa James - don't know where he lived, died or was buried. Thanks .......Eugene

George H. Sowers is buried at Rockland Cemetery, Warren Co. VA. There are some Grubbs buried in the same location. I have the directions to the cemetery, if you do not.

There are also Grubbs buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal.

George H. Sowers' last house located near a County Club--Shenandoah Valley (I believe) a map found in McKay Newletter. Rt. 658-- I believe Michael might have a picture of it on his web page. Also a map of the location in my MacKay book.

You might check census to see who your James Grubbs lived in the decades 1860,1870 & 1880. Also land deeds of Warren Co. VA. I am still abtracting Frederick Co. VA.

Grubbs (various spelling) & Hogg (various spellings) are two surnames I am taking notes on found in PA/MD & NJ. To see if the families traveled together finally settling in VA. I have also been watching the surname Pritchard. I have found it in MA to NJ to PA and down into VA.

Good luck with your research.

I believe that E. H. Hefflybower should be E. L. Heflybower who is my great-great-grandfather. He also is buried at Rockland Cemetery.

It's located on Fairground Road just past the intersection of Rockland Road on the left.

Fairground Road is off of U.S. 522 where the Warren County, VA Fairgrounds are located.

THANKS to both of you.

G-grandpa James Grubbs, as shown by census records of 1860-1880, lived at Nineveh, White Post and Cedarville District respectfully. These areas cover quite a bit of territory. His estate settlement account indicates that, at the time of his death, he was renting from one T. M. Johnson (don't know who he was or where he lived) as rent of $50.00 was paid May 1887 and another $40.00 rent was paid Dec 1887. Am trying to determine where those named in the records lived. Laura Hale's mention of G-grandpa James says he was buried in the Grubbs Family Graveyard but she gave no location of same and I've found no record of such a place.......Eugene

Didn't one of our Sowers family members intermarry with Grubbs?

Page 123 & 133 Has information about the above couple. He was the son of Fielding L. Sowers & Sallie D. Brownley.

Anne E. Grubbs was born 1834 in VA. Her parents were: Thomas Grubbs & Frances Royston. I have the names of their six children. I guess I got the information from census. Her parents were married in Frederick Co. VA on 21 Jul 1830. A copy of their orginal marriage bond can be found on film rented through either State of VA Library System or L.D.S. library. By using the records for Frederick Co. VA a researcher could connect the two groups of Grubbs.

Also there were marriages between Grubs (various spelling) with Cleavinger family. They intermarried with McKay family members.

I have the following Frederick Co. VA books which one can find information about the above families.

Births 1853-1870 for $7.00
Deaths 1853-1870 for $6.00
Land Deeds 1743-1765 for $20.00
Land Deeds 1765-1785 for $35.00
Marriages 1853-1880 for $22.00
Wills 1743-1816 for $25.00
Wills 1816-1837 for $20.00
Wills 1837-1865 for $20.00

postage & handling $3.50 first book & $2.50 each additional book, check or money order to me

I have found on Family Tree DNA two matches with Nancy Lee Sowers and Angie Sowers. My e-mail request for Nancy Lee Sowers came back, but I hope the one to Angie Sowers will go through. Seeking Sowers Y marker. They come from the group of our family that lived in Loudoun Co. VA.
