I paid a visit to Crooked Run (Nineveh) Cemetery today and noticed that the stone for Joshua Antrim McKay Sr. was broken.

I wonder what is involved in reparing it?

Where was a trust fund set up for the maintance of the cemetery. I do not know if that means repairs to stones. The responsible as well as monies were transferred to the present day Nineveh Presbyterian Church. You might check with their leadership.

The the letter from Bruce G. Stevens offering to take over the cemetery I have dated 11 Jan 1985. I do not have evidence of monies changing hands. The trust was held by Dominion Trust Comany of Winchester, VA.

I think the stone in question has been broken for some time. I do not if it could be fixed. You might check with your local funeral house to see if they can give you names of stone cutters.

I have a picture of the plaque showing the transfer of trusteeship from members of our family (your father was one of the trustees) to the trustees of Nineveh Presbyterian Church for care of the burial grounds.

I plan to go to Nineveh one day soon since I hadn't been there in awhile. I'll mention the stone and see what happens there.

I don't know how long it has been broken but I remember Aunt Belinda Heflybower's stone was broken once at Rockland Cemetery but it had since been repaired. I know because when I discovered it broken I sat it upright against another stone.

I'll look at Uncle Joshua's stone and see if I can prop it up better.

You may want to try contacting Rinker & Frye Memorials out of Mt. Jackson, VA, phone # 540-477-2334. I had them repair my great, great grandparents stones in Stephens City and they did a wonderful job repairing and cleaning them and they did so for a really reasonable price. Good Luck!
