Jacob Sowers' daughter Elizabeth married John Campbell of Scotland/Frederick Co. VA. Stated in his will he was from Scotland. I have a copy. I have the names of five of their children from Frederick Co. VA wills, marriage bond & land deeds.

1. Iver/Ever Campbell married 8 Jan 1804 to Elizabeth Kiger
2. Robert Campbell
3. John Campbell married 10 Mar 1803 to Dolitha Catlett, died 1819 Frederick
Co. VA. I have a copy of his will.
4. Jane Campbell married 28 Dec 1798 to John Noble
5. Elizabeth Campbell married John Ferguson, they removed to Bullitt Co. KY

The last one you might have interest in for she married into the Ferguson family. Most likely I will not be doing research on later lines of Elizabeth Sowers.

I have been contacted by others interested in Campbell of Frederick Co. VA. But I have no evidence that John Campbell came to VA from Scotland with his immediate family members. Could be various Campbell families living in the area.

I think copies of their wills would be useful on this website.

I know of some Campbells but not sure if they are all connected. One Campbell branch is from my Steer genealogy.

I do not plan to type into the computer any more documents until I am ready to compile my last Sowers book--Ancestry of Etta Double Sowers. It will have all new document (I hope to find) dealing with the Sowers & (additional maiden names), Jenkins, McKoy (I do not know if Robert's group of McKay or not), Kerfoot, Mitchell, Johnston & Reynolds. Since I am still missing a number of maiden names associated with the known surname I have no idea how many additional surnames I am dealing with in the end.

I will not be ready to compile her book until I have finished abtracting and compiling Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds (doing that now) and then I will need land deeds & wills dealing with Warren & Clarke counties, VA.

I do have the following Frederick Co. VA books which might help others do their personal research:

Births 1853-1870 for $7.00
Deaths 1853-1870 for $6.00
Marriages 1853-1880 for $22.00
Wills 1743-1816 for $25.00
Wills 1816-1837 for $20.00
Wills 1837-1865 for $20.00
Land Deeds 1743-1765 for $20.00
Land Deeds 1765-1785 hope to ready Sept. 2006

postage & handling $3.50 for first book $2.50 each additional book, check or money order to me:

10814 Paynes Church Drive
Fairfax, VA 22032

If I find out important new information about the above surnames I will post that information on your web page. I have not received from other good comments on what I have posted in the past.

A long with doing Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds I am looking at early NJ records around Monmouth Co. NJ for our Robert MacKay. Until I find some records in that location I consider it a waste of time to look at additional area.

As a side note I have seen Collett in the early NJ records their emigrate came from Glocester Co. England. I do not know if the same family associated later with our McKay family.

One of the blood lines of my great-grandmother Etta Double Sowers that has been difficult to trace was the ancestry of Mary Emily Mitchell wife of John W. Sowers. Her mother Matilda Johnston's mother was Frances Reynolds. I have been able to document her male line back three generation. I am not sure if last Reynolds is the emigrate or not.

1. Jeffery Reynolds born 1675 lived in Richmond Co. VA, will filed in 1721 in Richmond Co. VA. Wife named Ann at the time of his death. Named three children, I descend from only son.

2. John Reynolds born c1700, d. 1761 Richmond Co. VA, will filed named his wife Ann and his son George.

3. George Reynolds born 1735 Richmond Co. VA m. 12 Feb 1759 Richmond Co. VA to Frances Barber, his will filed in Richmond Co. VA 4 May 1778. His will named his several children, they removed to Frederick Co. VA. My line from their daughter.

4. Frances Reynolds b. c1768 Richmond Co. VA m. 28 Jan 1789 Frederick/Clarke Co. VA. to Wm. Johnston. Died about 1833 in Frederick Co. VA. Their daughter

5. Matilda Johnston b. 1792 Frederick Co. VA m. Wm. Mitchell, d. c1860 Clarke Co. VA.

There were other Reynolds (various spelling) living in Frederick Co. VA. Some it would appear came down from PA/MD into Frederick Co. VA. I will not be collecting information on those groups of Reynolds.

The Barber part of the ancestry of Frances Reynolds, her mother Frances Barber's male line back to Wm. Barber, not sure is emigrate or not. She also has Glascock ancestry and I am sure I know the emigrate for that surname. She is also a descend of Thomas & Anne Nash, not sure is the emigrate or not.

I will only be looking for information about the following group of Reynolds that lived in Frederick Co. VA. There were lots of other John Reynolds living in the area. I am sure they do not belong to my group of Reynolds who came from England directly into Richmond (Old Rappahannock Co. VA first) Co. VA to Frederick Co. VA.

1. George Reynolds m. Frances Barber, born, lived & died in Richmond Co. VA. The names of their children from his will and found on North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co. VA.

2. John Reynolds married 2 May 1785 in Richmond Co. VA to Jane Hammond
dtr of John & Elizabeth Hammond and he was the executor of said
George Reynold's estate. He (John) left his wife & children removed
to KY.
3. Wm. Reynolds married in Frederick Co. VA on 10 Mar 1795 to
Rebecca Harris
3. George Reynolds b. c1768 Richmond Co. VA, d. 1834 Frederick Co. VA
4. Epaphroditus Reynolds died without issue 2 Jan 1792 Richmond
Co. VA.
5. Frances Reynold m. Wm. Johnston, my line
6. Ann Reynold
7. Elizabeth/Betsey Reynolds b. 4 Nov 1777 Richmond Co. VA m.
m. 24 Sep 1799 in Frederick Co. VA to Hamlin Davis

2. John Reynolds m. Jane Hammond, their children from her estate records, This is the line of Rich Hayden. He actually reads original records !! Very hot researcher. E-mail address rahayden@bellatlantic.net
8. Thomas Wm. Reynolds
9. Elizabeth Reynolds m. 23 Jan 1807 to Elijah Milton
10. Nancy Ann Reynolds m. 8 Apr 1810 to John Haynie/Haney

I will be doing most of my work on the Reynolds line trying to document my main blood line back to the emigrate and the maiden names back in time to the emigrates.

L.D.S. #0031361"Hampshire Co. WV Legal Documents 1790-1859". I ordered this film to find Shipp records in said county. The Film actually contained wills filed in Supreme Court covering Frederick Co. VA an surrounding counties but most of the wills connected with people who lived in Frederick Co. VA.

Two items found-- the will of Wm. Mitchell 29 Sep 1835, 3 Nov 1835, he mentioned his wife (not named), daughters: Frances Eliza, Mary Emily & Ann Maria (youngest) and two son James Carey & Wm. One of the witness Morgan Johnston.

I am still trying to find documents that Matilda (Johnston) Mitchell was the sister of said Morgan Johnston & John I. Johnston. Still looking for their parents.

Also included his inventory & his estate sale and on this record Matilda Mitchell was the executor of the estate, a lot of items sold, but his slaves it would appear not sold.

His slaves as of 19 Nov 1835: Philip 43 years $700, Benj. 35 years $750, Haman 26 years $800, Reuben 19 years $850, Betty 46 years $200, Caroline 28 years & her son Samuel $700, Susan 10 years $400, Arthur 10 years $400, Len 8 years $350, Moten 6 years $300 and Robert 4 years $200.

The people conducting the sale Seth Mason, John M. Elliott, Jacob McKay & Collin Leach.

Of the above slaves the only one that could have belonged to Wm.'s father Carey Mitchell was Phil.

The name of the game is to figure out if some of the above slaves belonged to a Johnston Estate and which household that was in Frederick Co. VA.

Matilda (Johnston) Mitchell died after the civil war, so if I could find her estate settlement would not be helpful. Said Morgan Johnston I just have the number, sex and age of his slaves, but no names.

I will just have to continue to work this problem.

All input welcomed.

Also found on L.D.S. 00031361 "Hampshire Co. VA Legal Documents" the will of James Ship of Frederick Co. VA dated 28 Oct 1835, named as his heirs Charlotte Mitchell to have his plantation "Woolf Marsh Tract" which belonged to his father and his daughter Ann granted his plantation called "Sagittarius".

His uncle John Ship one of his executors.

Brown's book "Clarke Co. Homes" has additional information about these two plantation.

Above Charlotte (Ship) Mitchell was the wife of James Cary Mitchell who was the son of Wm. Mitchell & Matilda Johnston. My line from their daughter Mary Emily Mitchell who married John W. Sowers.

Her Shipp Family not related to my grandfather Walter E. Shipp's group of Shipp.

The book "Shipp Family" by Ralph D. Shipp has her line back additional generations. There are so many mistakes in his book I would use other sources.

Lemuel Shipp m. Lucy Doniphan their son
Ewell Shipp m..........? had five heirs number from land deed record
James Ship m. Mary Fitzhugh
Charlotte Ship m. James C. Mitchell

Found on Ancestry DNA site sample given by "dawn12intexas" line of Faner Glascock born 1780 Rowan Co. NC died Edgar IL married Ledstone Redmon (1778-1856) She has to go back about 105 years or 3 to 4 generation to reach my oldest known Glascock ancestry.

My Frances Glascock did have one brother George Glascock born 1675 died 1714 married to Million Dowman.

Found Ancestry DNA Project researcher "pmarsh242" looking for the ancestry of Landon Rector born 1798 TN died 1878 IL wife Mary Wasson.

Researcher gives no parentage for his line, but found Ancestry Tree parents given as Cumberland Rector & Sarah J. Bartin, grandparents Charles Rector & Elizabeth GLASCOCK.

I descend from Thomas Glassock (1610 Essex Co. England died VA wife Jane Juet. This blood line goes down to my line of Mary E. Mitchell.

His Rector family intermarried with my Edwards Family of Fauquier, but I do not see that he has Edwards in his direct blood line. I think our link is with Glascock.

He has Rust looking for parentage of Minnie Rust born 1874 IL died 1946 married to Albert Hanny. If the information is correct on Ancestry her Rust family belonged to a group that were German. So not related to mine. I am aware another group of Rust lived in MA, this is the first I have seen German Rust.

Other Ancestry Tree and documentation have the emigrate Thomas Glascock with wife Jane Juet had son named Gregory Glascock who married Mary Fauntleroy their son above Thomas.

I descend from the emigrate other son Thomas who married Ann Nichols. This blood line part of the ancestry of Frances Reynolds who married Wm. Johnston of Frederick Co. VA. Their daughter Matilda Johnston married Wm. Mitchell who daughter Mary Emily Mitchell married John W. Sowers.
