All of the above household also had slaves given if they existed in the households, but I did not copy that information.

On Friday I am going to look at the listing of slaveowners as of 1860, I am interested in the ones possessed by my ancestor Thomas B. McKay.
David McKay's slave listed on the 1850 Page Co. VA Slave Schedule: 25 year old black female

Used as collateral to secure debts in Page Co. VA in 1859 David McKay's three slaves named as Pegy (woman), Febel (woman) & Gill (man)

We have from family information recorded on page 65 of my McKay Book that David McKay had a driver but no name given. Could be said Gill.

For 1860 Slave Schedule none listed.

As I go through Shenandoah Co. VA land deeds I will be looking for various McKay family purchase or gifting of slaves.

Eli Lehew's children: Jonathan Branson, Ann Elizabeth (would marry T.B. McKay), Charles Edwin & Francis Wesley guardian report found in Warren Co. VA Will Book B, his slaves: Newton, Sarah & child (not named) & Maria & child (not named) hired out and monies used to support the above orphans.

Their step-mother Ann Van Nort lived in Front Royal on Chester Street, where said Ann E. Lehew married Thomas Buck McKay. According to the 1850 slave schedule she owned two slaves: female 23 years of age & a male two years of age. I would assume these were her dower slaves and not included in the two sets of mother & child slaves.

I do not know if any of these slaves became part of the McKay slaves or not. If researchers are interested in slaves owned by the Lehew family. Some of the above slaves could have lived in Hampshire, Shenandoah/Page & Warren counties of VA.
Shenandoah Co. VA Land Deed Book CC, 440, dated 20 Dec 1823,22 Dec 1823--Spencer Lehew used slaves: Molley, Mary Ann, Sampson, Daniel, Alfred & Harriet as collateral to secure his debt due to Farmer Bank of VA for $129.

Further information about him found on my Lehew Book page 53, he started to sell all his property by 1823 and removed to Hamilton Co. OH. I have not found a record of him selling the above slaves, but perhaps some thing will turn up later.

He was the brother of Moses Lehew (father of Eli, father my ancestor Ann Elizabeth who married T.B. McKay), said Moses & Spencer the sons of Spencer Lehew Sr.

Spencer Jr.'s wife was a member of the Catlett family of the area and some of the above slaves could have come from her family.

I do not think they would be related to the slaves held by Moses to Eli Lehew.

My end game is to figure out how my ancestor Thomas Buck McKay came by the slaves he held in 1850 & 1860.

Found Land Deed Book 36,301, dated 4 Jul 1814, probated 3 Aug 1814, John Humston of Frederick Co. VA sells his slave named Harry for $500 to Jacob MCKAY JR.

I will be watching later land deed in the hope I can tie this slave Harry with our known Jacob McKay Jr. (who married Elizabeth Antrim) or was this Jacob McKay (son of Jacob McKay Sr. who removed to OH).

I do not remember when Quakers were told to free their slaves or leave the Society of Friends.
Shenandoah Co. VA Will Book Q, page 209 estate sale of George Kniseley dated 30 Dec 1830, buyer of the sale a
Jacob McKay who purchased one pan for 69 cents.

The question is was this Jacob McKay (huband to Elizabeth Wright) or his son Jacob McKay (husband to Elizabeth Antrim).

As of 5/30/15 I have collected 12 Family Finder Kits who descend from Peter Lehew and Frances Allen. By line: Winifred Lehew (3 kits), Wm. (1 kit), Francis (4), Spencer (mine line, Michael and one other)and John (1 kit).

In the 1980's I exchange "letters" something which researchers no longer do, but a Mr. Lehew of OH I am sure would have done a Y marker test. I have lost touch with him. I had three or four very good researchers from the line of Winifred Lehew who married into Owen family.

I wish we had been doing DNA then, but that chance is gone.

The closest Lehew male linked to my line of Lehew: Ann Elizabeth Lehew who married T.B. McKay, had four brothers all buried Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA. One brother had no issue and the other had only a daughter. So I am looking to reach out to any male descends of Charles Edwin Lehew who married Annice Buck (daughter of John Gill and Eliza (McKay) Buck. So also a distant McKay cousin.
