Does anyone know the address or directions to the Abraham McKay house located near Newport, TN. The house was built in the 1700's and I have a picture of the house that was taken by an unknown cousin in 1985, so it was still standing at that time. Abraham married Catherine Nichols. I am going to be in that area in early June and would like to find this house. Abraham is my gr-gr-grandfather. Thanks.

Correction: The home was probably built between 1830 and 1840.

Only notes I have on Abraham McKay home "lived on French Broad River, about 3 miles about Newport (this was old Newport on French Broad). The present Newport is on Pigeon River".
He was a member Big Pigeon Baptist Church, perhaps you can get on the internet and find its location. Location three miles south of Newport, TN.
Do you have the book by Ruth Webb O'Dell "Over The Misty Blue Hills" ? Let me check that source. Will get back to you if she has more information about Abraham McKay's house location.
Good luck with your research.

On page 143 of Ruth W. O'Dell's book "Over The Misty Blue Hills" has a picture of Abraham McKay's house, perhaps your cousin just copied it. You have actual picture of it ?
Abraham McKay sold the property to to John Stokely who gave it to his daughter Eleanor Stokely Susong. So perhaps this is the surname you need to find out about. The house looks like two stories, brick with a porch across the front with a second top porch. Most likely the door on second floor go right out on the top of the porch.

Thanks for the info. Yes, this is the picture I have. Maybe I can track it through land records once I get there.
