My brother and I found out recently through DNA tests, that we aren't Jordans as we had thought, but Cheeks. 100% on 37 markers. I have found Cheeks in Dearborn co. and Decatur co. in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Indiana. They appear to be the children and descendents of George Cheek born 1722 and his wife Leanna in Frederick co. VA. They had 11 children: Nicholas, George Jr., Machir, Francis, Nelly, Polly, James, William, Nancy, Travner, and Page.
Nicholas who married Barbara Kendrick in the early 1790's sailed down the Ohio river to the Indiana territory. In the 1820 Indiana Census, there appears to be 7 of George's sons in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Dearborn co. There appears to be descendents of these Cheeks in Dearborn co. and Decatur co., Indiana in the 1850 and 1860 census. I am interested in finding out who George Cheek's parents were. Also, there is a Harvey Cheek born 1833 or 1834 listed in 1850 living with Rachel Cheek and in 1860 with Lazarus Chuk (probably Cheek mispelled) In 1860 he is listed as an attorney. I would like to know his parents also. Our great grandmother, Jennings co., Indiana, had an affair with a Cheek who was in one of the counties apparently before and right after her marriage to whom we thought was our great grandfather and the result was our grandfather. We are interested in finding out who our great grandfather really is. Thanks for any help that you can give.
