I found this link when I did a search for George S. Heflybower:

http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx ... kwood4.txt

It is a cemetery list for Oakwood Cemetery in Travis County, Texas.

The listing for Heflybowers is like this:

Heflybower, Haysie Age 21 yrs July 15, 1902 3
Heflybower, Kate H. Feb 28, 1859 June 19, 1987 3
Heflybower, George S. 1850 1936 3
Heflybower, George B. 1885 1948 3
Heflybower, Mamie A. 1878 1960 3

I'm assuming that the "3" is the section they are buried in and since they all share the same number they are probably in the same lot.

According the records I have, George had a daughter named Mamie.

"Heflybower, Kate H. Feb 28, 1859 June 19, 1987"

If this recording isn't wrong then why wasn't she mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records?

Years ago I order through L.D.S. library a micofiche which contained compliled listings of various cemeteries of Comanche Co. TX. I might have also ordered a fiche dealing with marriages of the same location. This is really the only records for TX I have viewed.

If your questionable entry was from that location, I would check what the fiche has recorded.

I question the listing the internet has on the Brownley-Mitchell Cemetery. I really feel if the months & days had been recorded, Hunter B. McKay would have recorded them. He did so on other grave stones. I wonder if their compiler was using other sources ?

I will start, perhaps, this week posting what I know about the grave markers found at Prospect Hill Cemetery. I think I will record them by various families associated with our McKay, Sowers, Branson & Lehew.

I have notes about the families: Almond, Alnut, Ashby, Bierer, Branson, Brown, Buck (lots), Clem, Cloud, Compton, Cunningham, Fristoe, Gardner, Gore, Hall, Jackson, Jones, Kenner, Keyes, Kirby, Lauck, Lehew, Maddox, Massie, McKay, Mitchell, Naylor, Overall, Ritenour, Robinson, Rust, Simpson, Sowers, Turner, Tyler & Weaver.

I don't remember exactly where but I think I remember reading that Uncle George Heflybower left the area. That's probably the reason for the sketchy listing on him and his family.

I don't know whether or not he served during the Civil War like his brother or somehow managed not to have to serve. It could be he left the area after the War ended and appears on some roll somewhere.

I believe that what we have buried with him are his wife and three of the children. I do not know if there were more or not. The record I have gave a "Mamie" and a "Willie" which could be a son and daughter. There is a Mamie buried with him but what about "Willie". Could that have been George B.? Also buried here was a Haysie. Since she died in 1902, George B. was only 17 so that would make it unlikely that Haysie was his wife so I'm guessing it's another sister.

Mamie must have died unmarried.

I've updated the record I have for George S. Heflybower at:

http://www.geocities.com/mckyrbnsn/line ... /3626.html

I looked through my Hoefelbauer genealogy by Beth Hefelbower Seebach and saw her entry on George and how he went to Austin, Texas so I'm certain this is the correct branch.

Certain questions come to mind though. Who was Willie? Did she marry and have children of her own? I'm certain that the children buried beside George and Kate did not marry. Haysie was 21 when she died and Mamie doesn't seem to show a spouse name. George B. is also buried there.

Who was "Pet" Heflybower that my grandfather told me stories about? Was he one of George's children or did he come from a branch back through one of Samuel's siblings or aunts and uncles?

I asked in the record that if anyone descends from George S. to contact me.

i think george heflybower was my great grandfather. if my memory serves me correctly he owned a block of land on the corner of west 22nd street and rio grande. his children were:

george - called uncle bud and died on the property from a heart attack or stroke.

haysie - who died on the property, very young, after drinking bad creek water.

willie - she was my grandmother and i new her very well as a child. she married col. charles james deahl jr. who was comander of camp chaffee ark. i use to call them grandma bill, and papa.

mamie - who never married, worked with the deaf and new helen keller.

i hoped this helped!

George was a brother to my great-great-grandmother Ella (Heflybower) McKay & my great-great-grandfather Edwin L. Heflybower. They are both my great-great-grandparents because her (Ella's) son LeHew married his (Edwin's) daughter Nannie who were my great-grandparents.

Tell me more. Been wanting to know more about Uncle George's family.

Grave of George S. Heflybower b. 7 Jul 1850 Berryville, Clarke Co. VA, d. 1 Jan 1936 Austin, Travis Co. TX, buried Oakwood Cemetery. These are the dates as found on his grave stone. This entry names his wife, his parents and children. When research add information not found on the grave stone, I do not know what they are using for documentation. His wife and some of his children found in the same cemetery.

Another entry for their son George B. Heflybower.

Also might try L.D.S. Lab for TX records they might have on line. You should be able to find this family group on census through Heritage Quest.
