Some time ago Cousin Howard Doster had a letter sent to him about Moses McKay and Abigail Shinn's home in Warren County, VA. It discribed the house as being located just south of the old Robert Mackay Jr. home in Cedarville. He is not in possession of this letter at the moment and wishes to reclaim it.

Would anyone have any information as to where this house might be located?

I have a guess that it could have been the one which burnt down several years ago right near the intersection of US 522 and the road to Middletown, VA. The chimney is all that remains of that particular house. Some have said that was a McKay home but I haven't gotten more details on this.

The late Hunter B. McKay stated in his records that the house of Robert S. McKay was a substantial gray stone House , which originally belonged to his grandfather Andrew McKay. It burned in 1928, the chimneys and parts of the walls alone remaining.

I believe I have the survey plats for Andrew McKay, who built the house.

Said Robert S. McKay was the only one of his siblings who remained in VA, rest removed west.

Hello,
Thanks for the information about the house that burned in 1928. Where was it located?

I remember seeing a burned remains of a house in Cedarville, about 1/4 mile south of the still occupied Robert McKay House on the same side(west) of the highway.
Is this it?
Do you have a picture?

I now own and live part-time in the 1818 Moses McKay House at 9363 New Burlington Rd., Waynesville, Ohio, 45068. He was my g-g-g grandfather.

Howard,

I believe that's the very same house you were looking for. I'll try and take a picture of it and mail a copy to you.
