After our recent bout with Hurricane Isabel I was concerned about how the Old Bethel Baptist Meeting house fared.

I went up to check everything out on Friday and found nothing out of the ordinary other than a few small twigs and leaves on the grounds.

The building appeared unharmed and the cemetery suffered no further damage than what had already occured during last Winter when a branch fell and damaged part of the wall surrouding one of the walled Sowers/Kerfoot plots.

I plan to put up some info. on some upcoming repair work that needs to be done to the Bethel Meeting house and cemetery soon.

Some of you might already know that the meeting house has been closed off to visitors due to damage that has been done to the roof and ceiling caused by last Winter's big snow storm.

The care and upkeep of Bethel is an ongoing process and these things happen from time to time, but with continued support of people interested in Bethel we have been able to withstand the challenges that nature throws at us.

We appreciate that support and always welcome new people to join The Bethel Memorial, Inc. as it is an important part of our family's heritage, especially those of us descending from the Sowers & Kerfoot families of Clarke & Warren counties in Virginia.
