Michael McKay
Well, some important changes occurred this time. Chief among them is that we now have a new editor for the Robert McKay Clan Newsletter.

Our longtime editors and founders of the Newsletter, Wallace and Dorothy Shipp have decided to retire from doing the Newsletter.

Our new editor is Michael W. McKay who will be working with me in a joint partnership between the Newsletter and Website. I am going to meet with him on a future date to discuss how to proceed with this.

I believe that this would be beneficial to both the Newsletter and Website and to the entire Robert Mackay family in general as technology changes and we make use of the new tools before us in reaching different cousins out there.

This year's gathering was rather small compared to previous years. I counted 35 people based on the returns and who was actually present this year.

I believe different factors are involved in this, we had a few deaths in the family since last year's reunion and that usually has a negative effect. Plus some people's plans and activities were such that attending the reunion was just not possible.

I plan to find a location closer to "McKay Country" in Virginia (Frederick, Clarke & Warren Counties) which hopefully might encourage some others to attend being more convenient for them to do so.

I also introduced my plan to shorten the business part of the reunion by having the secretary's report and my Website report included in the Reunion Agenda that was passed out. This allowed us not to have to sit for the reading of both of these reports. I may do this with the other reports that are usually read here next year and see how that goes.

All in all, I believe that by doing this it will free up more time for socializing and minimize as much as possible the administrative parts of our reunions, hopefully to make them more enjoyable by all attending.

I use the Collett-McKay Picnic and the Bethel Memorial, Incorporated annual events as examples of where to draw ideas from. These two gatherings involve a minimal amount of administrative aspects which I believe we can apply some of that to our Virginia McKay gatherings.

I believe everyone who was present this year had a good time and was glad to see some first timers as well as some whom I had't seen at one of our gatherings for a long time.
