On page 59 of my McKay book list the children of Cassandra I. McKay with Thomas Cox Miller. The questionable material centered around their son:
Thomas Madison Miller born 1834 Frederick Co. VA, died 1921. Death date from the notes of Frances Jett with H.B. McKay.
His marriage recorded in Frederick Co. VA Marriage Registry:
"Miller, Thomas M., 26 years of age, single, born & living in Frederick Co. VA, Physican, parents Thomas C. & Cassandra Miller, married 5 Nov 1861 Frederick Co. VA to Margaret C. Davis, 18 years of age, single, born in Frederick Co. MD, living in Frederick Co. VA, parents Francis A. & Cecelia Davis, married by Rev. John Allemong".
This couple I can find them on:
1870 Frederick Co. VA, New Town: Thomas M. Miller 34 born VA, Margaret C. 26 years of age born in MD. Note no children living in their household.
1880 Frederick: Thomas M. Miller 45, Maggie C. 38, time running out no children listed in their household.
From the notes of the late Frances Jett given to Hunter B. McKay. She recorded the following information about this couple:
Thomas M. Miller born 1834, died 1921, attended the Univ. of VA and Delaware College in 1855. He received a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Philadelphia and was a surgeon during the Civil War CSA, Later he practiced at Newtown and later Stephens City, Frederick Co. VA. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He married first to Miss McKay, daughter of John McKay of Warren. She died 8 Feb 1879, married second to Margaret C. Davis (daughter of Francis). He had Joseph, Robert, Thomas & D.L. Miller.
I do not see the evidence that he had two wives nor had any children.
The big problem comes with the second marriage of Margaret C. (Davis) Miller, found in Frederick Co. VA Marriage Registry:
"Rev. Frank A. Strother, 46 years of age, Methodist Minister, widower, born in Fauquier Co. VA, living in Jefferson Co. WVA, parents Alpheus J. & Ann M. Strother married in Stephen City, VA on 27 Sep 1893 to Margaret Cealia Miller, 45 years of age, widow, born in Carroll Co. MD, living in Frederick Co. VA, parents Francis A. & Cealia Davis."
The question is what is the true death date of Thomas M. Miller. If he really died in 1921, then Margaret C. Miller was not a widow when she married her second husband. Was she really a divorced woman ?
Perhaps additional information will turn up.
