Are you a descendant of Robert Mackay Sr., or one of the allied families?

With nothing better to do this morning, I looked at your link to Rootsweb entries (only first grouping). The following people have placed into Rootsweb Computer Bank the wrong parentage of our Robert MacKay of NJ/PA/VA:
Earl Strickland, Brett Stuart, David Burton, Dennis Ward,Vernon Edgley, Dwight Sipler, Boyd Bissell, Cindy Fentress, Amy McDonald Burgess, Wm. Eberwein, Pam Golden & Randy Davis.
Who are they ? Where did they get this information ? Does anyone check documentation before posting information on the net?
Three new GEDCOM have been submitted into the L.D.S. computer with the same wrong parentage for Robert MacKay of VA:
Karl & Tamara Ney, Floyd Gingrich & Kristen Ingram.
Who are they ???

I have no idea why people just want to go by their first name only.
I also have no idea why people do not immediately state how they are related to a family.
Such behavior makes me think they have something to hide.

Although I'm not 100% sure, "Bill" could just be an internet robot. A computer that automatically posts a message programmed into it's system onto a message board.
Reasons why I think this? First of all this thread was just an advertisement for "genlookups" and nothing more. So, I thought I'd ask "who is this?" because I get stupid crap like this in my email and on my Instant messinger all the time.
Second, being the inquisitive person I am I thought I'd check and see if he had a profile since he used a Yahoo! address. Guess what? No profile. The person probably doesn't even exist. Robots make up email addresses when they send you messages which is why responding to them doesn't always work.
Being webmaster I have the ability to edit, examine, delete or close off any thread I choose to and so I looked at his message under my "microscope" so to speak. I wanted to see if "Bill" put a check beside the "Also send responses to my email address" because I wanted my replies to go back to him. He did not, so I guess after all it was just another spam robot prowling the web to post advertisements.
Of course I could be wrong and "Bill" might be a real person who is just following orders kinda like those poor telemarketers who have to call your house to pitch some kind of sale to you. Read the thread in "The Humour Section" on how to deal with telemarketers for some tips on how to annoy the hell out of 'em.
Well, all in all it's good to see some activity here lately. Things have been rather slow. :D

I recognize one name you mentioned and I believe that this is true with all of them that they are most likely relative newcomers when it comes to genealogy research.
People start off on the search for their roots and encounter a wealth of information (and misinformation) found on the internet and the LDS computer banks.
Thinking they've found a gold mine they will incorporate this "new" data into their files. It turns out later to them after more research that they've found mostly "fool's gold". (I've visited a website where the researcher came to doubt much of the data that she originally had because of questionable sources and numerous mistakes that had been circulated.)
Which is one of the reasons that this website exists. To help people find and understand the known facts about our early Robert Mackay Sr. family and to try and dispel as much of the misinformation about our family circulating through the internet as possible.

Well this is interesting about your robot theory. It make sense. All of which is why "real people" when dealing with others on the net should be honest as to who they are and what are their intentions.

All the above people who have placed the wrong parentage of our Robert MacKay in three different computer banks: L.D.S. (there the problem started by Francis Gill), Rootsweb & Worldtree, know they just down loaded computer files into their personal computer. They know they do not have any paper work to back up their information.
I do not care if you are new to genealogy or not, everybody knows what is a document and what is not.
1. An original document a piece of paper written at the time of the event. Like land deed, will, court records, marriage bond, birth or death record etc.....
2. Secondary source is the results of a person compiling a family history and it is hoped will use orginial records to pull together their book. Check the book's bibliography to see the ratio between original records & other secondary sources used. The latest book in print about our Robert MacKay Sr. family by Joan S. Guilford "The Ancestry of Dr. Franklin B. McClung" used only other people's books and the advise of Francis Gill. As a results is full of incorrect information about Robert Mackay and his children and grandchildren.
3. Internet pedigree charts, family tales, gossip etc...(all in the same vein) these are not serious sources of information and should not be passed around to others.
Again we are all responsible for our own work.
