I received a phone call last night from a researcher interested in the Kemper family of Fauquier Co. VA.

Ralph E. Shipp (my father) has placed in the L.D.S. computer bank information about his ancestor Henry Kemper. And he wanted to have the documentation send to him to prove said information.

My father told the man I had the documentation he wanted. So that's why he called me.

I have no idea why my father made such a statement and I have no idea why he would have submitted material concerning the Kemper family of Fauquier Co. VA. The surname doesn't appear in our family tree. The name Henry Kemper doesn't appear in my computer bank. And my name is not connected with the name in the L.D.S. computer bank.

The only possible answer I could give to the man was that my father had misled him and most likely took the information from another researcher's computer disk. R.E. Shipp could have saved the man a phone call from St. Louis, MO to Fairfax, VA, if he had been honest with him. The honest statment coming from said R.E. Shipp would have been--"I just took the information from another computer bank, I have never researched the family and I have no documentation. The BUCK stops with me."

You can, of course, purchase a copy of these computer disk on line from the L.D.S. church.

Then the man continued to say he thought people who had submitted material to the L.D.S. computer bank had the original documents to back up their pedigree charts. And one only had to write to the other genealogists and they would "share" and make copies of their documents.

First, I asked him if he was joking and he was in fact serious. I had to inform him a lot of people in "genealogy land" are passing around information by computer disk which has not been researched let along documented. You can't document a false pedigree chart.

So watch out--if you have information placed anywhere on line in any computer bank or family web site--you might receive a phone call asking for your documentation. Don't be caught in a lie. If your material is not documented either remove it from circulation (if possible) or be courtesy of others time and when asked where you got the undocumented material tell the truth. The BUCK stops with you.

What can I say? The man (Kemper researcher) needs to visit this forum and read past posts where we've dealt with this issue concerning genealogy information submitted to LDS system.

I have learned a lot about citing sources even if they aren't necessarily the best source. Saves a lot of trouble if someone were to come along and ask you how you came to know this?

By the way. I visited Handley Library Archives yesterday and found the books you submitted as well as an original copy of Hunter Branson McKay's work on the Fairfax Land Suit. I will make reference to them in the partial genealogy records section of the website.

Also, I found that a copy of "The Descendants of David Steere & Phebe Milhous" was in the archives so I looked through it. I wish I had a copy of this of my own but since I don't I just xeroxed the first few pages for reference on the website.

They have Grace Varman's ancestors traced back a few more generations and provided a surname and parentage for Hattill Varman's wife Abigail.

In keeping with trying to be as accurate as possible I won't accept this info. as fact unless there is some way of verifying it to my satisfaction. I remember our dealings with the Hugh Mackay & Jane Dunbar and James Brown & Honour Clayton issue and how people added those names to their pedigrees without any proof offered and to top it off, those names appear to be unlikely the parents of our Robert & Ann (Brown) Mackay.

So, I will only make reference to it in biographical form as an "according to (said genealogy) etc. etc."

Watch someone go and add those names to our Steer pedigree and have them listed as fact without sources mentioned. It will happen.

I just received a second phone call from a woman interested in Thomas Savage of early Northampton Co. VA as to the information posted in the L.D.S. computer bank.

First she called Ralph E. Shipp (my father) in NC and he said he got the information from me.

This again is a FALSE statement. He lied to her. The truth of it is--that he like a lot of other people are just going to various computer banks pulling computer files into their personal computer, mixing the files with what they have, and then send it off to other computer banks.

If they think this is actually doing genealogy research and that this is a honest way to find information--why then lie to others that this is what they have done ? They are not doing genealogy research, but just moving computer files around.

I really wish people would show some honesty and integrity when dealing with others.

When I am bored I work my husband's Family Tree DNA Family Finder and I have been surprised to find links with some of his Irish Families, Bunting (I would have thought to have more) but more welcomed I found evidence of his double line of Savage of Northampton Co. VA

If you are researching Savage as a surname and you are not using DNA, then you are wasting a lot of your time and monies.

Twenty years ago I was given information about this Margaret Savage who married his Samuel Bunting. And I really did not work that particular line or question it. People who have Savage ancestry all want to be descends of Thomas Savage of early Jamestown, VA first "white man" who settled the eastern shore of VA. People's tree in Ancestry have linked their lines to this group of Savage.

There is a rather huge Y marker study going on and a book by Russell Blair Savage has his Y marker in the study. They have not really set the markers in known groups of Savage Families. But some can be found on Y Search.

As it turns out there were four different Savage Families living in the same area of Northampton and Accomack Co. VA. All the different Y markers would support they are not from the same male ancestor.

Thomas Savage "The Carpenter" is my husband's line of Wm. Savage and Rowland Savage I BELIEVE is where I will find his second line Peggy Savage. Support by the fact I have two DNA matches with his kit who descend from Rowland Savage's descends. The two others Griffith Savage and the highly sought after Thomas Savage of Jamestown, VA

I have seen on the Family Tree DNA Y marker site that not one Y marker has been supplied by known documented male descend of Thomas Savage of Jamestown, VA. My husband does not contain this line of Savage in his Family Finder.

Thomas Savage "The Carpenter" is represented by two samples and the documented book by Mr. Savage. I can not tell if a male descend of Rowland Savage has supplied a sample or not. It would appear there are more non-related Savages than grouped together as descends of one male ancestor.

I hope in the future more kits that contain Savage DNA of Northampton and Accomack Co. VA will be filed with Family Tree Family Finder.

Other groups of Savage Families living in the rest of US, you are on your own.
