Certain groups of researchers want to give the name Moses Green McKay as the youngest son of Robert MacKay Sr. His name was just Moses McKay.
Said Robert had no middle name and none of his children had middle names.
Of the hundreds of original documents issued during the life time of Robert Sr. and his children NONE have never sported a middle name.
The late Bill Jobe mis-read some of the late Katherine Reynolds' writings. She was pondering if Margaret McKay the last wife of Robert Sr. was a member of the Green family and had mothered his last child, said Moses. I have copies of her letters to the late Hunter B. McKay. She did not have the name of the second wife, Mary McKay. Through some leap of faith he (Bill Jobe) decided without any kind of evidence that Robert named his youngest son Moses Green McKay, for wife number three--Margaret.
Since Robert had the second wife Mary, Margaret could not have been mother to any of Robert's children mentioned in all the public records as living to adulthood. And as far as I know no evidence has been found to give the maiden name of either Mary or Margaret.
If the Jobe researchers have a land deed, court record, etc.....that gives a middle name for the youngest son of Robert Sr., name the document.
Asa McKay found on page 74 of my McKay book did have a son named John Green McKay born c1805. Katherine Reynolds & Hunter B. McKay did not have this information. I found it for myself. His full named given in a land deed--public record. It would be jumping to conclusions to say "perhaps" his mother was a member of the Green family. Considering all the problems we have had in the past with people guessing and passing around "Family Tales" as fact, until I find an original document naming the wife of said Asa McKay it is unproven.
Remember McKay sometimes just named their children for well-known community leaders---like Thomas Buck McKay.
If you issue pedigree charts to the public you are responsible for the material--or you should be. Better have the evidence because people will ask you for it.
Always address the message and do not attack the messenger.
