Did note that Katherine (Hackney) Luby stated she has the middle name of Robert S. McKay recorded in a family bible.

Did she offer to make you a copy ? Does she know really when and who recorded the middle name as Shinn?

To change the subject: Branson

I have also been contacted by a researcher interested in our Branson ancestry. I posted a message for her on Rootsweb/Culpeper Co. VA. Hope she can find the information who have posted dealing with the Branson family. Her line removed from VA to IN or OH.

I told her she can order a copy of my book "Ancestry of Ann Elizabeth Lehew" on film through L.D.S. library. But people seem not to want to go to all that "trouble". They just want to be supplied the information. Like you are doing here on the net.

Yes, she did say it was recorded in an old Bible. Also it was recorded "Aaron Shinn" but "Aaron" was crossed out.

I did get to see some of the old land deeds and a few other things so I know that there is some documents on this branch of the family available.

Some of the data she has is currently in storage and she was trying to get a lot of it sorted out.

If I get to see this info. and more about whose Bible it was, I believe it could have been Moses & Abigail's bible I'll let you know.

It's bad when I forget to write this stuff down when I go to Ohio to attend the Collett-McKay Picnic. Shame on me!!

why should we believe they are right about the name Shinn.

If Robert S. McKay was named for his mother's family, why was he not named Samuel Shinn McKay ?

I have a Derryberry Family Bible with question marks by dates and name.

I really question her source.

I guess we would have to have some kind of legal document that had his entire name spelled out in order to determine whether or not it was Shinn.

For those of you who weren't aware I have a copy of his Last Will & Testament on this website. It only spells out his name as "Robert S. McKay".

Who knows, maybe it could have easily been "Robert Samuel McKay" and named after his maternal grandfather.

I did include in the partial genealogy record of Robert S. McKay on this website the mention of the Bible record and that his middle name could have been "Shinn" according to Cousin Kate Luby but I didn't put it in the bold print of his name so it leaves the question open until further evidence can either support or disprove his name being "Shinn".

Probably all I can do at this point.

I thought I should take time and make a note regarding the last part of Dee Ann's statement but for those of you wanting instant information please be aware that the records I'm putting up on-line are only PARTIAL records.

That is they are simply basic genealogy records, primarily birth, death & marriage of individuals that are being used to connect the people whose wills, photos and/or other documents are being displayed on-line.

If you wonder why you see a lot of "Continued elsewhere" statements written in these records that's why. I do not have enough memory space to put up the entire family genealogy and even then I have to take into account how to display living persons.

If you want detailed information on the people in these records you would be better off to purchase copies of Dee Ann's books because you can get copies of some of the sources used to obtain the data.
