Shepherd Mckay-Born 1831--------Page co. Va.

Your Shepherd McKay born 1831 should have been about 9 years of age listed on the 1840 Page Co. VA census.
I can tell you the only household listed on the 1840 Page Co. VA census was David McKay. We have his issue "pegged". He had no sons. His ancestry is fully laid out in my McKay book. Page 65 of my McKay book has a listing of his daughters and who they married and some of their issue.
I think it is pointless for me to try and guess if your line is related to our group of McKays or not, with out more information from you.
Questions:
1. Where did you come up with the birth date & place for your Shepherd McKay ?
2. What location is the first place you have found your McKay on Federal Census ?
3. Where did your McKay marry ? Name of his wife ?
4. Where did he raise his family ?
5. Do you have the names of any of his family members?
6. Where did he die ? Have you tried to find a death record for him ?
Since Page County, VA was formed from parts of Shenandoah & Rockingham counties in 1831, you might also want to look at McKay household in those counties as well.
Most of those individual are listed in my McKay book. I have a feeling, however, you might be interested in Alexander McKay (I have postings about him on his site). If your Shepard McKay is related to him, then I do not see how you can be related to our group of McKays.
If you give me more information I will see if I can point you in the right direction. Or you can purchased my McKay book for $30.00 and ponder the untraced lines for yourself.

I'm interested any entries with the surname Kidwell, in particular
Joshua Kidwell, b. before 1766
Nancy Kidwell, b. before 1766
Frances Kidwell, b. ca. 1801
William Thomas Kidwell, b. 5/15/1835, d. 1/16/1862
Amanda Kidwell, b. ca. 1857, d. 7/1858

At the end of the roll of Clarke Co. VA Bond (administer & guardian) Muster Roll for 1861 to 1865 and WWI. I made a complete list of all the names.
It will take me a day to pick through and post: McKay, Kerfoot & Sowers from the list.
If you think you have a soldier that should be on the list, e-mail me or place a posting here.
Tomorrow I will get the listing of civil war soldiers who lived in Warren Co. VA.
I do not know if Michael can put the whole listing somewhere on his site or not.

Reel 95 Loudoun Co. VA Births 1853-1859 & 1864-1866
Deaths 1853-1866
harder to read than the other films; so I will do it last.
So I will look for Kidwell family in both births & deaths.

It depends on what is involved with this list. I'm guessing it would probably be something that I could post on this Discussion Forum, especially if it's a comprehensive list that contains numerous names other than the ones from our family.
(P.S. I'm writing from Ohio near the Collett-McKay picnic area)

Reel 14 Clarke Co. VA Bonds had included the listing of four groups of soldiers.
The Civil War Soldiers the pages given as 1-14,
first list of soldiers for:
Clarke Cavalry known as Co "D" 1st Reg of VA later called Co "D" 6th Reg. of VA Cav. I would say a about hundred names.
second list of soldiers for:
Clarke Rifles known as Co "I" 2nd Reg. of VA Inf. this list has couple hundred names with some additional information about each soldier, like if he was captured or killed in action.
third list of Civil War Soldiers for:
The Nelson Guards Co "C" 2d Reg, VA Inf. Stonewall Brigade. There are 136 names listed, numbered as such, with additional information about each soldier.
I have no idea if there were other company of soldiers mustered out of Clarke Co. VA during the Civil War, these are the three given on this film.
Last Listing of WWI soldiers, marine & sailors pages numbered 15-24. Each name has his order number, when and where he enlisted, race is given & which branch of US forces given.
Let me know if you think you would want a listing of this record for your web site. And how you want to receive the material--retyped or original copies I took off the film.

I am a descendant of Christian and Susannah (Karn) Derry (m. Oct. 1819), Loudoun County, Neersville, VA. I know Christian died 27 May 1858 and was buried there. His widow lived until 22 Jan 1884. My gg-grandfather was a son (we think their second son) James Madison Derry (b. 1822), who emigrated to Illinois about ten years before his father died. We would like to know additional Derry family members' names, birth and death dates, etc. William D. Derry (b. 1825)was another son of Christian and Susannah who followed his older brother westward in 1853. John P. Derry (b. 1829) was the son who stayed behind in Loudoun County. We think there was one older son -- Michael? or Thomas Hanson Derry? -- born between 1820 and 1822. We also think there were at least two daughters, one who married a George Abel. These children of Christian and Susannah are an enigma to us Derry cousins out here in Illinois. Philip B. Derry was Christian's father. He died in 1826, we think in Loudoun County. Philip B. married Margaret Barbara Everhart in Frederick County, Maryland. She died in 1862. Both Philip and Barbara lived "between the hills" near Neersville, VA. In addition to Christian Derry (their oldest child, b. 1895 or 96) they had J. Peter Derry, Michael Derry (1799-1860), Elizabeth (Derry) Virts, Catherine Derry, David Derry, Solomon Derry, Margaret Derry, and Eli Derry. Any firm dates for these Derry family members or others I have not listed would be very greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what I could do with the originals but if you have a type-written copy that would probably work best. You could always cite where the copy was obtained so folks will know how to get it for themselves.
I believe it would look best on this forum since it's really a list of all persons who served and not just our relatives.
If you can, you can re-type it on a new thread on this forum or you can send it to me and I'll post it up on a new thread.
