Found on Reel 109 of State of VA film dealing with Frederick Co. VA marriage bond, is a bond for

Joseph McKay & Salley E. Garrison posted on 22 Nov 1825, with Jacob McKay posting the bond money.

I am wondering if this Joseph McKay was the son of John & Rebecca McKay. Found listed on page 113 of my McKay book, and a copy of his will included. We know he married on 10 Aug 1835 to Dolly Ann Massie. Both buried at Nineveh Cemetery,Warren Co. VA. It would appear they had no issue of their own. His property left to other members of his family.

Now this man's brother John Wesley McKay married into the Garrsion family. His first wife was a Frances E. Garrison. The question is did two sisters married two McKay brothers ?

This branch of the family has connection with the Massie family. Shirley Sparks and I are trying to figure out all the connections. To confuse things there were two different Massie/Massey etc.... living in area of Frederick & Fauquier Co. VA.

Recently I found John W McKay's family Bible on the LVA Website. It nailed down what we thought.

John Wesley McKay first m'd Frances E Garrison May 24, 1832, dau. of Nehemiah & Rebecca Garrison.

Their children:
Sarah Frances McKay, 25 Apr 1833.

Mary Elenor Massie [22 Jul 1810], daughter of Thomas Massie [1782] & Nancy (Graham) was the 2nd wife of John W McKay. They m'd 11 Mar 1835. (She had previously m'd Wm C Hupp. I have no children for them.)

John W McKay & Mary Elenor had children:
Charles Lewis McKay, 25 Dec 1835.
Thomas W McKay, 1 Jun 1837
John Walter McKay, 11 Mar 1839
Joseph Casper McKay, 1 Dec 1840; d. 1842.
Joseph Casper (2nd), 2 Jan 1843.

I believe this is exactly as Dee Ann Buck has in her book.

Later John W McKay m'd Mary Elenor Massie's young 'double' cousin, Mary Massie, daughter of Asa & Mary F (Graham). I could find no children in the Bible for them.

Joseph McKay married Dolly Ann Massie, youngest daughter of Thomas Massie & Nancy (Graham). I have found no children for them; but have relied on Dee Ann Buck for most of this. Another Rust cousin agrees that they had no children; but gave no sources.

Bottom line: Joseph & John W McKay married Massie Sisters. And John W McKay's 3rd wife, was a cousin of these Massie sisters.

Frederick Co. VA Land Deed Boook 56,479, dated 24 Feb 1830, probated 1 Jun 1830, commissioners: John B. Earle, Thomas Buck Jr. & Robert Hendren divided the slaves once possessed by Nehemiah Garrison, his wife allotted her dower slaves and the rest given to his children:

1. Peter given to Joseph McKay in right of his wife Sarah
2. Angella given to Charles Garrison
3. Jack given to Mrs. Rebecca Garrison
4. Edmond given to Frances Garrison
5. Mary given to Thomas Garrison
6. Grandson given to Mandley Elgin in right of his wife Evelina
7. Louisa given to Wm. Garrison
8. Rachel & her child Lander given to Mrs. Rebecca Garrison.

I believe said Sarah Garrison married Joseph McKay son of John & Rebecca McKay. And his brother John Wesley McKay married the above Frances Garrison.

Said Joseph married 10 Aug 1835 in Shenandoah Co. VA to Dolly Ann Massie. It would appear he had no children with either woman.
