A "Cousin" of Michael MacKay directed me to this forum, since he has "Gaines" ancestors. I'm in a real "tussle" with my Gaines' line. My Elizabeth Frances Gaines, m. Daniel Franklin Anderson in 1827. My problem is that I believe she was the daughter of Elizabeth Brady (d/o Elizabeth Brady) and Richard H. Gaines. BUT, if she is, she would have married Daniel Anderson at the age of 16. Can any one help? Please email me directly if you have any information.
Thank you.

Dee Ann Buck
Found in Fauquier Co. VA Wills etc....Book 25, page 356. Listed 10 portions of his estate to:
1. Mary C. Gaines his widow
rest to his children
2. Harriet Gaines
3. Elizabeth S. Gaines
4. Amanda Gaines
5. Virginia Gaines
6. John Gaines
7. Wm. Gaines
8. Lucian Gaines
9. George Gaines
10. H. Waller & wife
John K. Gott's book list two marriages for a Richard H. Gaines:
first to Elizabeth Brady on 24 Sep 1810
second to Mary Shumate on 21 Dec 1822
I have in my PAF program the following about said Richard H. Gaines:
He was born 1789 in Pr.Wm.Co.VA died 5 Oct 1854 Fauquier Co. VA, with his two wives his children:
Harriet born 1816 (think from the first marriage), Elizabeth born 1825, Amanda born 1828, John R. born 1830, Wm. born 1832, Virginia W. born 1835 & Richard L. Gaines born 1838.
I have the father of said Richard H. to be a Wm. Gaines.
I guess the first daughter could have been from his first marriage.
I rather doubt this is the couple you want. It could be your Elizabeth Frances Gaines was related in some way to this family group.
When my husband & I return from sailing this evening, I will check my other books.
This Gaines family inter-married with the branch of the family established by James MacKay Sr. Michael & I come down from the group of his brother Robert MacKay Jr.
Good Luck.
