Hello,
I hope I am in the right place! I am looking for the parental lines of Clinton Dick and Nora Lee Omps, who married sometime before 1904. I have found records for 2 of their children, Veda W. Dick Basore(1904-1981) and Burl Lee( 1906-1978) Anyone recognize this family? I have copied some pages from the book " Historical Records of Old Frederick Co.,Va" but as of yet I haven't gotten that far back. Sincerely, Rebecca

Well, I know a few people in the Omps family. They primarily occupied northwestern Frederick County and on into West Virginia. They usually lived around the Gainesboro (Pughtown) and Whitacre (Redland) communities.

I'm not exactly familiar with the couple you mentioned but I do know of a Dick-Omps union where the husband was Omps and the wife was Dick. I think her name was Phena (Dick) Omps. Several of this family live in the area I believe.

Try the Genforum bulletin board for Frederick County, Va. and see what happens.

Since you didn't state when you think your Clinton Dick was born guessing about 1879. So would start checking Frederick Co. VA census with 1880 to the present. S. & K. Publication sells Federal Census in book form & CD of actual census records, really GREAT. Check out their web site

www.skpub.com/genie/

We have all the VA census at the Public Library here in Fairfax, VA I still would like to have a copy of these census for my personal library. They need so many orders placed before running off copies of a particular census. So help the cause and order some Frederick Co. VA census.

You could be able to get a marriage records for the above couple and if recorded give you their parents' names. If you do not have the day, month & year your couple was born, for the State of VA, you would need a year within five years. The State of VA will not search their records for you. I believe the later census either 1900 or 1910 will state how many years a couple were married.

Another course of action, I believe the L.D.S. library does rent out the later marriage records. They did at one time have a copy of the film at the center here in Fairfax, VA. I will check next time to go, will not be until first part of Sept.

I have compiled for Frederick Co. VA the following records from original records, Dick & Omp do appear:

Births 1853-1870 $7.00
Deaths 1853-1870 $6.00
Marriages 1853-1880 $22.00

postage & handling $3.50 first book & $2.50 additional books.

In birth registry just one Omp:

Virginia Omps born 29 Jul 1870 Sleepy Creek, parents Benj. F. & Delilah Omps Farmer.

Was she a sibling of your Nora Lee Omps, have no idea. Census might give you that answer.

I can't seem to find a marriage record in Frederick Co. VA for said Benj. & Delilah, perhaps married in surrounding county.

Good Luck, sure your problem can be solved with some library work.

According to the index for Frederick Co. VA Marriages has a listing for a A. Clinton Dick on Register NO 2 page 488.

You can order the film at your nearest L.D.S. library for $3.25 or if you live in VA order the film through inter-library loan system.

This record should give you your couple's parents names and other information.

Good Luck.
