I just received a letter in the mail regarding the Annual Meeting and traditional service at Bethel Church.

It reads as follows:

"Dear Members and Friends of Bethel:

On Sunday, August 27, 2000, at 11:00 a.m., we will have our Annual Meeting and traditional service, followed by a covered dish picnic (rain or shine) on the grounds. Please bring your favorite dish to share under the oaks.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome as our speaker for this occasion Christopher G. Miller, President of the Piedmont Environmental Council. The PEC is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting and protecting the rural economy, natural resources, history and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont. The organization has 25 employees and over 3,000 members.

Mr. Miller is an attorney with expertise in environmental and transportation matters. He served PEC as coordinator of the successful campaign that challenged Disney's America development proposal in Haymarket, Virginia. He holds degrees from Williams College (B.A.) and the University of Mishigan (J.D.).

We have an exciting year planned for Bethel, including the Christmas Lessons and Carol Service on Sunday, December 17, 2000. Please mark your calendar accordingly. Enclosed you will find a return envelope for 2000-2001 dues and contributions, and as always, we urge you to support Bethel and the roll that it serves in the community.

The Bethel Board continues to progress with the next phase of our historical paint project in furtherance of the research which was done on the church building by the firm of Croxson & Ward in Locustville, Virginia. We look forward to sharing with you our continuing plans for painting the pews.

At the Annual Meeting, we anticipate our normal festivities. To that end, we welcome auction items and baked goods, plants, etc. for the God's Half Acre Sale.

We look forward to seeing you on August 27th
