I've just finished the subsection of the website called "Robert Mackay Clan Memorabilia". You can view it by clicking on this address:

http://www.geocities.com/mckyrbnsn/rmcmem.html

It is a collection of newsclippings and pamphlets dealing with the Robert Mackay family.

For some of you it may bring back memories.

Since my grandmother Daisy Love (McKay) Shipp was born in VA and raised in VA until her marriage to my grandfather Walter Eugene Shipp, all the information about the members of the McKay family as CSA apply directly to my line.

I thank you for placing this material on the site and am glad Hunter B. McKay, Laura Hale & others took time to record our branch of the family involvement in the great Civil War.

I do hope members of the family who served on the other side will take the time to mail to you their accountings of their family experiences during the Civil War. It's up to them to do so.

Best Family Site on the Web.

While I was doing this a question did come to mind regarding the branch of Moses McKay & Abigail Shinn who went to Ohio with the exception of Robert S.

Did any of their children serve in the Ohio regiments? I'm assuming they would have been Union soldiers because Ohio remained in the Union during the Civil War, although I did find out about that one Maryland regiment that fought for the Confederate cause from one of these newsclippings.

This had something to do with the Union battle flag that Nannie (McKay) Rust had gotten from the Confederate soldier.

What little information I did have concerning our cousins who fought for the North, I have listed through out my latest McKay Book. I believe most of the information came from Delight Trent (Moses MacKay Sr. line) & or E. Rudolf McKay (James MacKay Sr. line).

I would think our cousins who live in OH area would like to send in a picture of Moses McKay's house which was on the underground railroad. Must be very interesting stories in connection with that house and period of history.

I am very interested in the whole issue of slavery, African-American history & underground railroad.

Hope my Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds will arrive next week.

I think I may have seen an article about this house in an earlier edition of the Newsletter. If I find it I could put it up as well.

I'm planning to go out there the weekend of the 13-15th of August to attend the Collett-McKay picnic so I'm sure I'll probably hear a little about this.

I do remember it was used as a stopping place for the Underground Railroad.

I'm also going to put up some photos of the McKay Exhibit that was on display at the Confederate Museum back in 1973. I have a few on loan that I'm going to scan. Probably try and get that done this evening.

I'll be heading for the National Zoo tomorrow so I'll be gone for most of the morning and afternoon.
