I can confirm that a Charles Buck & Sarah Jones married 19 Jul 1780 in Shenandoah Co. VA, marriage listed in John Vogt's book. You should be able to get a copy of the original marriage record. As I recall these early Shenandoah marriages just one line recorded in a big book--no bond document like with early Frederick Co. VA Marriage Bonds.

Bondmans puts up monies needed at the time of the marriage. Can be a relation but perhaps just a friend.

I have been contacted by another researcher calls himself only "Thom" also looking for a Charles Buck of Gallia Co. OH, trying to connect his family to Front Royal, Warren Co. VA.--Buck Family.

Rather told him that's a dead end.

The only marriage between the Buck family (connected to McKays) of this area would be Wm. Buck born c1852 married Jennie Jones, he was the son of Charles & Sarah Jane (McKay) Buck.

Listed on page 94 of my latest McKay Book: John Gill Buck born 1814 Frederick Co. VA married 5 Feb 1838 to Elizabeth Ellen McKay, he was the son of Thomas & Amelia (Dawson) Buck. John & Elizabeth Buck children: Mollie, Samuel D., Wm. A, Meredith H., Annice L., Thomas Jacobs, Elizabeth, Benj. A., Amelia L. & John G. Buck Jr.
Their birth dates range from 1839 to 1863.
John G. Buck would have been born about 36 years after the man Charles Buck that you are looking for. I don't think we have a match.

What source is "Jones Family Papers" ? If this is the place that stated that Charles Buck who married Sarah Jones, was the son of John G. & Elizabeth McKay, then I think you should now be rather careful trusting what this source has to say.

Listed in another one of John Vogt's book Marriages of Orange Co. VA:

Anthony Buck & Mary Shepherd 15 Dec 1796

The above Buck, I do not know which Buck Family he belonged to but I do not think belongs to the Buck Family of Front Royal, VA. I am tracing my Shipp & Bridges families from Westmoreland/Essex area into Orange then into Shenandoah & Rockingham counties VA. Perhaps the above Anthony Buck took a similar path. I will try to keep an eye out for Buck Family members moving in the same direction. If I find news will post the same on Michael's web page.

I think early Orange Co. VA wills, land deeds & order books have been published by Ruth & Sam Sparacio. Listing of their books can be had by State of VA Library.

Just like there are many different McKay, Mackey, McCoy, McKee living in the Frederick/Shenandoah Co. VA, same could be said for the Buck Family. Not to mention Buck Families of MD & PA. My Shipp family who came from Orange Co. VA, removed for a time into Frederick Co. MD then into Frederick Co. VA.

Our early Buck Family Historians tried in vain to find a connection with them and the Rev. Buck who married Pocahontas. None was found, because they were two different families.

I have a rather good listing of the descendants of Charles Buck you came into this part of Valley. Only Charles Buck born c1750 would be:

Charles Buck II born 28 Oct 1750 in VA married to Mary Richardson, d. 23 Aug 1823 at his house called "Buckton" now present day Warren Co. VA.

He fathered eight children: Letitia, Thomas, Sarah, Samuel Mountjoy, John, Charles III, Wm. Calmes & Mary Richardson Buck. Birth years range from 1776 to 1792.

Good Luck with your research.

Just an additional note, Buck is my married name, born a Shipp.

My husband's family from Baltimore, MD, of German descend, name changed from Boch/Bock to Buck during WWI period. No relation to the Buck Family of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA.

However, the Buck Family of Front Royal had many marriages between my McKay, Lehew & Branson families, which is why I have collected for myself what I have on these Bucks. Wealth of information is available to collect on them from original records, published family histories, local published histories & lots buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, VA.

Found in Frederick Co. VA Book 24a page 145 land deed from

Wardner (sic) Buck & his wife Barbara sold to Samuel Schooley on 8 Apr 1795 a tract of land containing about 160a, for 240 pounds, situated on Crooked Run, being part of a larger tract of 400a once patented from Lord Fairfax sold to Philip Bush, probated 5 Apr 1795

Found in Frederick Co. VA Marriage Records

Warner Buck married 26 Mar 1782 to Barbara Slesher.

I think there must have been another Buck family living in Frederick Co. VA. These Buck were not related to the ones who married into the McKay family. Also wondering if the surname Bush is mixed with the name Buck.

I have been contacted by another researcher looking for the parentage:

Elizabeth Buck married in Shenandoah Co. VA on 30 Sep 1790 to Wm. Walden. Bond stated she was the daughter of John Buck.

Now if she was born about 1770, then her father John would be born c1740. She would about the same generation as the Charles Buck you are looking for.

We have a very good handle on the first three generation of the Buck who were the descendants of Charles Buck & his two wives: Ann Sorrell Earle & Letitia Sorrell. His son John does not have place in his family for the above Charles nor Elizabeth.

Also were was another marriage in Shenandoah Co. VA Catherine Buck & Jacob Hotsipiller on 31 May 1811, bond by Adam Bly.

All other Buck marriages listed in Shenandoah Co. VA Marriages 1772-1850 I can place with the Buck family who inter-married with my McKay family.

My guess is that there was another Buck family living in Frederick/Shenandoah Co. VA area that as not been traced or studied until now.

From State of VA Reel 108 & 109 I have the following Buck Family Marriage Bonds:

1. Isaac N. Buck & Susan Taylor, daughter of Mandley Taylor issued on 5 Jun 1827. She was his first wife, married second to Ianet Urquhart Lovell. He was the son of Thomas & Ann (Richardson) Buck. Said I.N. Buck died 1877, buried "Mountain View", Warren Co. VA.

2. Lettitia Buck & Isaac B. Cloud posted on 2 Jan 1826.

3. John L. Buck & Annie C. Buck, daughter of Thomas Buck Jr. posted on 24 Sep 1822. He was the son of John & Miriam (Richardson) Buck

4. Leticia A. Buck (daughter of Thomas Buck) & John M. Blakemore posted 31 Jul 1820. His full name John Mauzy Blakemore, son of George & Elizabeth (Mauzey) Blakemore. Both buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA

10. Isabella Buck & Hezekiah Conn posted 20 Jul 1803. She was the daughter of Thomas & Ann (Richardson) Buck.

As you know Michael these Buck along with their various allied families are buried at Prospect Hill Cemetery of Front Royal, Warren Co. VA. They inter-married with our McKay, Branson, Lehew and perhaps others I can't remember at this time.

This family left a wealth of original documents in Shenandoah, Frederick, Fauquier, Warren & Clarke counties of VA.

Reel 45 Superior Court Land Deeds has two different Bush men as adults in 1794 buying and selling land.

Philip Bush and his wife Catherine mortgaged their property to Charles Yates & Wm. Lovel (merchants of Winchester) in 1794, two tracts on in Frederick Co. VA 343a which he purchased from Edmund Randolph and second 100a situated on Sleepy Creek in Berkeley Co. VA. sold to him by Isaac Larue who purchased it from Lord Fairfax.

Second adult Bush--in 1795 John Bush & Mary sold their land to Henry Keeber, tract containing 161a, a grant from Lord Fairfax. In the body of the deed his surname also spelled Busch.

I think some compilers in the past have recorded this surname Bush/Busch as Buck.

The Elizabeth Buck you mention who was married to William Walden on Sep 30 1790 is the daughter of John L. Buck and Miriam Richardson; and granddaughter of Charles Buck and Anna Sorrell Earl.

Elizabeth's (1772-1851) first marriage was to William Walden in 1790. You probably know of her second marriage to Thomas Erskine Helm (1768-1849) in 1797. In her second marriage, she had 10 children. I do not show any children from her first marriage.

There is a lot of Buck Family information on our Web site: http://www.BuckFamilyHistory.com.

Hi,

I found your site by accident! I am hopeful that you may have answers for me as I have been humbly searching my Buck family but never get past Thomas. I have information that indicates that he is the son of Charles J Buck born 1797 va. died 1852 Jackson,Ohio, and Maria Grimes,(no info').

My information indicates that Thomas married Margaret Corbit or Corbett, daughter of Alexander Corbett 1844 in Jackson,co Ohio. They moved to Knox co.Ill. soon after. They moved again to Henry Co Iowa in 1846. Margaret died 1852 leaving 3 children Harvey, born in Ill.,Lafayette born in Iowa, and a daughter who died young. Thomas married again Nov 20,1852 to Malinda Shaw daughter of Milo C Shaw. Their children are Chester, Arthur, Charles, and Franklin p who is my gg grandfather.

I am very grateful for any information you may offer.

I hope to hear from you soon

Regards,
Susan Buck Baker
