I want to sure my findings and conjectures on the findings of the family of Asa McKay and wife Melinda Lanham. Some of the men that I believe to be their children have been ascribed to other Virginia McKays.
From my reading of the records it appears that Asa was son of Andrew McKay who was son of Robert McKay Jr. son of Robert McKay, the first known of this clan. As such he was a second cousin to Robert McKay who m. Lydia Leith, James McKay who m. Mary Check, and Abisha McKay, whose first wife was Polly Lanham, a sister to Melinda. I cannot find a record of Asa in Indiana and it is possible that Melinda moved to be near her father and siblings in Switerland/Jefferson Co. after Asa died.
The will of Henry Lanham names daughter Milly McKay. Millie McKay 15 June 1798-18 March 1867 is buried in the McKay Braytown Cem. (age 73 years 8 months 28 days)The birth date in the transcription does not coincide with Milly's age in the census. Milly McKay, age 57, born Virginia, lived 1850 Milton Twp. with Henry McKay 25, and William McKay, 23, apparent sons, in her household. The death record of Enos McKay, who died in Switzerland Co., shows his parents as Asa McKay, born Virginia, and Milly Lanham, born Maryland.
The book Mackey and Allied Families contains a footnote, which quite obviously confused the various generations. These footnotes are based on the records of Mrs. Minnie McKay Jackson of Hemlock, Ind., a granddaughter of Enos, and Mrs. Louisa Reed, 1856-1950, a daughter of Floyd. The book's version of these footnotes are apparently based on a typewritten document by Miss Mary Hill, who did much research in the 1930s through the 1950s. Miss Hill's typewritten notes are in the Madison (Ind.) Public Library.
Mrs. Jackman thought Morris was son of George McKay and Malinda Lanham (close enough for jazz). There is no death record for Morris in Switzerland Co., however. The notes from Mrs. Jackman, says she thought Floyd was son of Floyd McKay and (blank) Lanham. Mrs. Reed thought Floyd was brother to Enos, Cheney, Henry and Lydia who married Hiram Lanham. If we ignore Cheney (son of Moses and Bethelin Gaines) it looks like Mrs. Reed got it right.

2. Enos McKay 4 July 1816-23 Nov. 1901, buried Mt. Zion Cem. He m. 1st 6 March 1843 in Switzerland Co., Malinda Bray They lived 1850 Craig Twp. He m. 21 Jan. 1855 in Switzerland Co., Francis Jane Gow 1831-4 Aug. 1869, buried McKay Cem. (Braytown). Son of Asa McKay and Milly Lanham per his death record in Switzerland Co. In 1850, his oldest son is listed as Asa.
3. Morris McKay 22 Feb. 1820-5 Nov. 1883 He m. 6 Dec. 1841 in Switzerland Co., Elizabeth Bray 19 May 1824-26 March 1886, both buried McKay Cem. (Braytown) as is Milly McKay. He lived in 1850 in the same household as Meshack Lanham, his mother's brother. In 1850, his oldest daughter is named Melinda.
4. Lydia McKay 8 March 1822-4 Feb. 1896 She m. 30 Jan. 1840 in Switzerland Co., Hiram Lanham. Lived adjacent to Milly McKay in 1850 in Milton Twp.
5. Henry McKay b. ca. 1825 lived 1850 with mother He m. 1st __________ Lanham; 2nd Wallace, lived Greensburg, probably the Henry age 36, lived 1860 Craig Twp., wife was Martha b. 1834/35
6. William McKay b. ca 1827 lived 1850 with mother, unmarried, per Mary Hill records
