Also in your quest for Robert...I have a Baker family that is documented Revolution...in his own declaration he states that he went from Rowan County NC to KY then to TN...even gave the county in KY but I could not find any record of him there....so they may have stayed just a short time in that area before moving on...also in some of the wills and land records at least in SC often times children were living with parents i.e. usually on a portion of the land owned by the parent....

Might this be the case with Robert?

I have kept in the back of my mind that perhaps Robert's family came down from MA to early NJ. And I have look at NY for a marriage between any MacKay & Brown families.

I/"we" must find some kind of document to find more about John MacKay of early Freehold. Now since he was a clerk of the court, he must have been able to read & write. Given this time period that could be a telling sign. Remember "our" Robert MacKay could also sign his name on documents.

Until I find the birth place of John MacKay Sr. of Freehold, Monmouth Co. NJ, it would be a waste of time to look at location further away than NJ.
