Found on VA Film called reel 40 Frederick Co. VA Land Deeds two sections second section 1849-1850 found date of 24 Aug 1850

A Harriet McKay with her five children (stated as her children) Wm. McKay, Emma McKay, Brian McKay and George McKay are selling a slave boy by the name of Charles to a Brian M. Stephens.

Found on the same film believe it was the same Wm. above with wife Susanna/Susan sold land 19 Feb 1849 & again same day to Josiah Lockhart & Jonathan Lovett. This couple signed deeds with their marks. He should not be confused with Wm. F. McKay (son of Robert S. McKay #141 in my McKay book). Same age group, but Wm. F. McKay could sign his name. His father was after all Justice of Peace for Warren Co. VA.

Listed on compiled census for 1850 Frederick Co. VA above Wm. McKay & family. Wm. 28 years, Susanna 29 years, John 5 years, Hugh 3 years & Ellen 1 year.

Above Harriet believe to be the same as wife of Abraham McKay found on page 270 and 282. It would apppear that said Abraham was dead by 24 Aug 1850, and location of the other family members by the 1850 census I do not know at the moment.

Did check compiled census of 1860 for the State of TN.; for their cousins removed to this location; but not listed.

I find the Christian name Brian very interesting for I have not found it used among the other older generations of McKay. Believe, Michael you have the name in your branch of the family ? He most likely was named for his mother's father--Brian M. Stephens.

The only Brians I'm aware of nearest my line of descent are Bryan Wm. McKay, son of Burch, grandson of Beverly B. McKay, gr.grandson of William Buck McKay (my gr x2 grandfather) who is the brother of Charles Edward Mckay (your great grandfather).

Also Brian Keith McKay, son of Dearing Parr McKay, grandson of Oscar Hartford McKay, gr.grandson of Cyle Parr McKay, gr.gr. grandson of Oscar Taylor (or Caleb) McKay who is another brother of the above Buck and Edward McKay.

These are the only ones I'm aware of so far with the name Brian McKay (or variant spelling).

I'm guessing that this branch you are talking about is probably descended from another of Robert Sr.'s children. I'm guessing those Brians are descended from Moses McKay who is also an ancestor of Junior McKay who has posted here in the past.

Yes, the one who mentioned is the one I was thinking of. That Sowers researcher I have just met said that she when to school with him.

The one on the 1850 census would be of a different branch of the family that our, from Moses MacKay Sr. line.

I am not aware of anyone working on this group of McKays.

It's pretty likely that she would have met him if she grew up in the Clarke County area. I have a few photos of some deceased Sowers/Kerfoot relatives that grew up with my grandparents.

One of them is Lucille Sowers Kenney who is the daughter of George F. Sowers (son of George & Martha). The other one is a picture of Randolph Burch who is a descendant of Matilda? (I don't have the notes with me, forgive me if I'm incorrect on this one) Sowers & Hillary Gibson Burch.

It was Randolph's family that bought the old farm that my great grandfather Archie Robinson owned near West Virginia.
