In case you haven't noticed I've made a major change in the title of the website.
I've changed the words "Clan Mackay" to read "The Robert Mackay Clan" since that is primarily what this website is.
It's the official website of The Robert Mackay Clan (family organization).
The usage of the phrase "The Robert Mackay Clan" has a dual meaning. First the word "Clan" in it's gaelic translation simply means children or progeny.
This of course grew into the usage to define certain semi-autonomous groups of people living in the highlands of Scotland who existed with a relationship towards their chief like that of a father with his adult children. Many of these people claimed a genetic relationship with the chief but then again sometimes a chief would accept as a member of his clan anyone who swore loyalty to him.
However, the term here refers to Robert Mackay Sr.'s children and descendants. His "clan" or family as well as some closely related families.
In this sense anyone who is descended from Robert Mackay Sr. whether they have the surname or not is a member of "The Robert Mackay Clan"
The phrase "The Robert Mackay Clan" also refers to our family organization which is made up of descendants of Robert Mackay Sr. (and other closely related families) to help foster kinship ties among descendants and also to learn more about our origins and socialize with one another.
One becomes a member of this group simply by getting on our mailing list.
We are not a clan society. We are a family organization.
The Clan Mackay Society, USA is a clan society.
Clan societies are generally involved with Highland Game events and other events and are also promoting general information in regards to the particular clan they represent.
I am also a member of Clan Mackay, USA.
If anyone is interested in getting on our mailing list and being a part of our organization I have info. listed in the section "Robert Mackay Clan Links and Information".
If anyone is interested in joining Clan Mackay, USA I have a link to their website as well listed in "General Clan Mackay Links and Information".
