This is something I've been interested in and looking for answers to for a long time.

There is so much out there that folks could see if they took the time to go and visit these places. Also, the stories about our ancestors are important as well.

I've e-mailed to some of our cousins some info. regarding different places (churches & cemeteries) which members of the Robert Mackay Clan had a prominent role in. These are places which are mentioned in this website also.

I know that one way of getting people to take an interest in something is that they can physically see that place and know the history of it and how it fits in with our family's history.

Also, being that we have our Robert Mackay Clan organization and The Bethel Memorial, Inc. younger people can get involved with these and have an impact on the future of all of the things that are connected to our family's heritage.

I'm interested in hearing any ideas that others may have as to how to get younger people interested in our family's heritage etc.

Simply entertaining the children isn't enough I believe.

They have to have a desire to want to learn more about their ancestors and the places they lived and where they worshipped and other things like that.

Also, I'd like to see that they willingly get involved in those mediums I mentioned on their own to help further educate people about the history of our family and the future of our organizations.

After all, when the old folks pass away or are unable to do it, who will pick up where they leave off?

Cultures may change but one's heritage never does. We've seen all kinds of things come into being in just a span of ten years. Ten years ago no one ever heard of the Internet. Twenty years ago no one ever heard of a "CD".

We can make use of these new mediums, as I have, to educate our family about where we came from and who The Robert Mackay Clan is as a family organization and where we can go in the future.

All of this depends on folks taking the initiative and getting involved in the different aspects that make up our shared family heritage. Whether it be genealogy or helping to promote some of the historical sites mentioned in the website all of it depends on folks taking the time to get involved.

For the children, I believe it would be a good thing because they learn something valuable out of it all and the stories and traditions, etc. are passed on to future generations.
