Today a viewed VA Warren Co. VA State reel #9 1836-1856
contained on his microfilm the Will of Jacob McKay III and his inventory. In his will he doesn't name all his slaves, just that Thomas B. McKay to receive Ben & son Oscar McKay to have Henry.
listed on his inventory we learn the names of the other slaves: Mary (girl) $750, Nannie (old woman) $100, John (man) $650, Eliza $700 & Manda (girl) $350.
The family story was that Uncle Ben lived with my gr-gr-grandfather Thomas Buck McKay when the Civil War broke out.
I wondered if I could learn what happened to the other slaves. From the birth registry of Warren Co. VA it would appear that Eliza became the slave of Thomas B. Buck, she is listed as having a son and daughter. Charles Buck has listed on the same registry a slave "Amanda" was this Manda. Charles Buck married Sarah Jane McKay. Joshua A. McKay has listed the death of a slave named John. Robert S. McKay married his cousin Nancy A. McKay he had listed a slave named Mary. Slave Nannie (listed as an old woman) is the only one left not accounted for.
I have not run across his estate division to see if my guess is correct or not.
