We are fortunate because our family had Quaker connections. Not that Quakers were better than other religious groups but because they kept good records of their members which have been used on many occasions to piece together one's family history.

We are also fortunate that we've had earlier ancestors who took it upon themselves to compile our history as well. People like Hunter Branson McKay. These people weren't perfect and made some mistakes along the way but they did lay the groundwork for future Robert Mackay genealogists and historians to continue the work they started.

One of the reasons I created this website was to help bring our Robert Mackay family closer together. Another was to let family members know that we are here. Our family organization, The Robert Mackay Clan, is active and holds meetings once a year and and we welcome anyone descended from Robert Mackay Sr. or the Bethel families mentioned to come and join us. Also, I've tried to keep folks notified of any Robert Mackay related event or Mackay or Celtic cultural event that happens during the course of the rest of the year.

Another reason we are here is to learn more about our common heritage and to correct mistakes that have been made in the past with regards to our genealogy and also to try and put to rest any of those myths and false stories that are out there like the one we've been discussing lately.

I hope that this forum can be a way to help in doing these things so I encourage more postings like we've had here recently.

Also, folks can feel free to post about other things on their minds as well as this IS a family discussion forum and I do like to hear about other things going on that people are aware of.
