Hi folks!

My name is Mike Mackay, not the Mike who runs this website, but a different one. I live in Catlett, Va, not far from Manassas or Warrenton.

I'm interested in starting a series classes in Gaelic for beginners. These classes will focus on conversation, some grammar, and vocabulary, with a stress on pronunciation. I currently have about three people interested from the area, but exactly when and where the classes will be held will depend somewhat on consensus from interested parties. My thoughts about learning materials is that we could all go get a copy of Teach Yourself Gaeli, which you can find in any Border's or Walden's for about $22-$25, or we can just "wing it" and have you all study from the notes you take while in class and the handouts I'll provide. Again, consensus will help decide.

I'll be asking a nominal fee for the classes - just a little incentive to keep coming to class each time. Probably on the order of $3 per class.

So, let me know if you're interested, where you are, what you can manage in terms of distance/cost, etc. Thanks!

Mike M.

That's also a factor in how much I can attend. I've accumulated quite a bit of miles on my car so that's a factor in how often I can attend, depending on the location.

If we met once a week, it would keep folks "immersed". But if some can only attend every other week, that's fine, too.

The class will be for doling out information and notes, and helping with pronunciation. The serious student will be reading, practicing, etc on his/her own anyway, so attendance to absolutely every class is not necessary. As long as there is regular attendance, I'm not concerned about the per-class payment - if, for example, you wanted to attend every other week, your $30 would take twice as long to expend as someone attending every week.

Again, consensus will help dictate this - if most wish to go to class every other week, fine.
