I don't recall your telling me earlier about your forum, but I'm glad to see you've added one. I hope you'll also send updates when you add other things, i.e., the Robert McKay will. My own website duties keep me from having much time for surfing, and genealogy in general. So I really appreciate your emails.

I recall the mention of Hugh McKay from the Buck book (still don't have my own copy, however). I did find some military history on a Hugh McKay, but can't locate it at the moment--I'm reorganizing my office, and beginning to think reorganize is a very bad word.

Funny about your brother, the coach! What are the odds, eh?

Good luck on getting that scanner. You'll be so glad you did! Can't imagine how I ever got along without mine.

Anyway, nice job with the forum. I like that you can read the responses from the sub-pages, much like the software in place at the forum I manage.

Best regards, Myrna

I guess I didn't get to let everyone know on the McKay side about it because I temporarily lost my e-mail address book due to a Hotmail error. Still haven't finished putting it all together yet.

I seriously think I need to save my webpages to a disk in the event a net disaster might occur which might erase my entire webpage. Having it on a disk means I'll be able to reconstruct it without any problems.

I'll get to putting Robert MacKay's will up someday. It's difficult to read and it takes time to transcribe. If I had a scanner I could scan the contents of the copy I have and have that placed there as well.

I don't know how the Hugh MacKay mentioned in the second section relates to our Robert. He died in France according to what Morgan wrote.

I found my notes re: Hugh McKay. Now I have to find the pages I apparently copied that go with the notes! Oy!

For what it's worth, my notes say:
LDS Film #1440935
Item 1-3 English Army Lists & Commission Registers 1661-1714 (Vol. I 1161-1685)
Edited by Charles Dalton, F.R.G.S.
Published by Francis Edwards, Ltd., 83 Marylebone High St., London, W.I., 1960
Officer Index:
Mackay, Angus p.232 / Hugh p.232 / Jas. 236 / Robt 232
Macquay, Jacob (see Jas. Mackay p. 236)
Page 232: Scots Brigade - Col. Mackay's Regt. of foot (March 1688) (See memorandum at head of pg. 227).

I wrote that I should copy Part II, pp.225-236, and perhaps to p.240.

Was the name Angus also one that was mentioned in the book? Sure need to get a copy! I've written to DeeAnn, no luck. But if you should ever find a spare, remember me, please!

I've got gremlins on my board right now. Every time I turn my back, the board disappears. So much for archives. Unlike NetBabbler, all the software is on my site, so I've no one to complain to.

It is a great idea to save all your files on disk (don't forget a backup disk, too), if you don't have room on your hard drive.

I do all my composing on my computer--even for sites that allow it to be done on-site (Tripod, GeoCities, etc.). When you want to check your work, you just open the file with your browser. That saves having to make changes AFTER you've uploaded the file.

Keeping my fingers crossed you get that scanner soon!

Yeah, I think this Hugh did serve for the King. It appears that for the most part the oath of loyalty existed between Clan MacKay and the current Royal head of state.

This is probably why they had mixed feelings about dealing with the Covenanters whom they probably felt closer to religiously but being that the Cheif was a man of his word he sided with the King.

Hugh MacKay appears to have been an officer in the King's army.

I myself haven't heard from Dee in a long time. I did get a letter a few years ago when she was exploring the Mormon records which had the Hugh MacKay "connection" but she was skeptical of it being that there were a few inconsistancies.

If I find that there are any books left I'll make a mention of it here and give the address where you could purchase one. As to the McKay records I have, they simply complement the work Dee Ann did by updating only the branches which I have additional info. for. In other words you will need a copy of Dee Ann's book in order to appreciate the records I have.

Computer problems sure can be a big pain. Mine needs a little upgrading so I'm glad I store my genealogy info. on a different computer. Plus the website is geocities based which means I don't have to worry about running out of memory.

I do hope to get a scanner. I have a few photos I would like to show people. Mostly in relation to my Tuscarora heritage. I have two great families. One being Clan MacKay (with Robert MacKay Clan & it's interrelated families of Sowers, Steer & Varman) and the Tuscarora Indian people. Both figure prominently in my website.
