From The Wilmington News Journal dated Saturday 2 Jul 2011.

The Kingman High School Alumni Association met on Saturday, June 11, at the Wilmington Municipal Building in the Moyer Room for its 102nd celebration.

Kingmanites from six states came together for the social hour to enjoy getting reacquainted with former classmates, guests and one Kingman teacher, Virgene Webb Peterson. McCoys Catering Service prepared a bountiful meal with rainbow sherbet and cookies to complete the menu. One hundred twenty folks met for the evenings events which began with a welcome by President Charles Weaver.

After the meal, Secretary/Treasurer Ellen Pidgeon Gilbert read the roll call so that all could know who was present. The oldest living Kingman graduates were Helen Brown Eakins, Nina Haines Mitchell and Ladonna Sinclair Stanley, all of the class of 1935. Brown was present and was recognized for her loyalty to Kingman alumni. The three classmates were pictured on the front page of the red covered programs which each guest found at his or her place at the table.

The minutes of June 12, 2010 Kingman Alumni Association and treasurer's report were read by the assistant secretary/treasurer Carol Sue Jones Tharpe and approved by KHS alumni. Vice President Rosalie McKay Beers presented the nominated officers and the committee for the 2010 KHS alumni. They are as follows: president, Rosalie McKay Beers, class of 1956; vice president, Dick Lane, Clinton-Massie, class of 1966; secretary/treasurer, Ellen Pidgeon Gilbert, class of 1956, assistant secretary/treasurer Marklyn Buckley Bone, class of 1963 and KHS historian, James Hackney, class of 1962. The KHS alumni committee for 2012 includes Josephine Coe Rothwell, class of 1951, Carroll Doughman, class of 1956, Sandra Gray Doughman, class of 1958, John Howell, class of 1958, Rita McKay Howell, class of 1959, Carol Sue Jones Tharpe, class of 1961 and James Borton, class of 1962. The complete slate of nominees was elected by the KHS Alumni Association.

The memorial service was conducted by Norma Ames Bennett, class of 1963, Charles Weaver, class of 1961, and President Shanholtz. The names of 19 people were read who had passed away since last year's alumni meeting. A candle was lit, a bell was rung and a moment of silence was observed in honor of each person. Those read were John Henry Morris, class of 1925, Harry Chick Brown, class of 1934, Walter Reeves, class of 1936, Leona Miller Graham, class of 1938, Delbert Haines, class of 1939, Harry T.J. Kier, class of 1939, Martha Starbuck Peterson, class of 1947, Terry Brown, class of 1957, Doris Ellis Gossett, class of 1957, John Robb, class of 1958 and Gary McClure, class of 1963. Also Wynona Whiting Taylor, Donald Whiting, and Riger Whiting who attended Kingman are deceased. Three staff members have passed away and they were Donal L. Davis, superintendent, and teachers Ruth Ellen Rudduck and Joe Dietrick, also a coach.

Kingman alumni historian James Hackney prepared honored class student history notes. Copies were at each place. Place mats with the specific names and miniature class composite pictures of the honored class members were given to each person. James Hackney with the help of Tharpe presented the printed class notes as part of the complete student history notes collection to be completed in 2018 as a booklet.

By special request, a llist of all the KHS alumni officers from 1957-2012 was written and copies were offered to all. Since no secretarys book can be found earlier than 1957, we are searching for those records and any assistance would be appreciated.

The banquet tables in the Moyer Room were covered with white linen cloths and decorated with wooden and silver-plated Kingman trophies, dating from 1913 to 1963. To emphasize the school colors, red and black ribbon curls and red germaniums were placed around the room. The red cloth covered tables held memorabilia such as pictures, large trophies and several copies of Kingman Klarions, the school newspaper.

The 2011 officers were President Larry Shanholtz, Vice President Rosalie McKay Beers, Secretary/Treasurer Ellen Pidgeon Gilbert, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Carol Sue Jones Tharpe, Historian James Hackney and committee members Carolyn Haines Tolliver, Charles Borton, George Arledge, Marklyn Buckley Bone, Norma Ames Bennett and Vicki George Wallingford.

Only 593 students graduated from Kingman in the 55 years it had a high school. There remained an elementary and junior high school for several years before being sold to become the offices and apartments that remain today.

KHS Alumni Association also invites high school classes who attended Kingman as juniors, sophomores or freshmen. These include the Clinton-Massie classes of 1964, 1965 and 1966. The meeting is always held the second week of June. Reservations must be made in advance so food, decorations and table settings can be prepared. Send your complete name and address to Ellen Pidgeon Gilbert, 410 Katy's Lane, Wilmington, Ohio 45177 to be included on the 2012 list.

Shanholtz thanked the 2011 officers and the committee for their dedication. He also thanked the guests and members for their generous donations. Beers led the group in the singing of the Kingman fight song. Weaver gave the benediction to conclude the evening. The 2012 alumni meeting will be June 9, 2012 in the Moyer Room.
