Janet Brookover Dinwiddie
Janet B. Dinwiddie, 94, passed away on May 16, 2012 at Edgehill in Stamford, CT. She was the wife of Harman Anderson "Buck" Dinwiddie, Jr., who predeceased her in 1992. Born in Boise, Idaho on April 30, 1918, she was the daughter of Mary Tuley Brookover and Samuel Ellis Brookover. A graduate of Stanford University and the Prince School of Merchandising, she devoted many hours of work and leadership to the Riverside Garden Club, Riverside PTA, Kappa, Kappa, Gamma, P.E.O., the Bruce Museum, and Cos Cob Library.
Be not sad, but remember her as a devoted mother and grandmother, the kind, intelligent, independent, spirited, community minded, well-read, dog-loving, bridge playing, globe-trotting world-traveler she was. She hosted many PEO overnight guests even after moving to Edgehill in her 80s, sold pecans, baked, drove others to meetings and did whatever needed to be done. Remember her in her flower and vegetable gardens, helping maintain the plantings at the Riverside Railroad Station, and even at Edgehill continuing to grow tomatoes and a variety of flowers. Remember her exquisite miniatures - what talent she had building houses and rooms, laying parquet floors, creating the furniture and furnishings, building a miniature grand piano, and needle-pointing all those rugs with thousands of infinitesimally small stitches. She was a life-long learner, fascinated by the world and its doings. Please celebrate Janet's life and do not mourn her passing. She has long been ready to travel onward, and now has embarked on her final journey. She is now at peace.
