Report on the Annual Meeting and Traditional Service

We had a fair turnout with Sunday's service. Our speaker Mr. Howard Means spoke on Johnny Appleseed and his life and the myth surrounding him. Afterwards a picnic was shared under the oaks. Weather was fine although the ground was wet from storms that passed through on Saturday. Below is a copy of the bulletin from the service with links provided to the Bible verses and hymns that were used.

Dear Members and Friends of Bethel: Sunday, August 23, 2009, at 11:00 AM, is the date and time for The Bethel Memorial, Inc. Annual Meeting and Traditional Service. Our speaker will be former magazine editor and newspaper columnist, Howard Means. Mr. Means is the author or co-author of eight books, including Colin Powell: A Biography, the novel CSA, and most recently, The Avenger Takes His Place: Andrew Johnson and the 45 Days That Changed the Nation. He has also assisted with more than 20 other titles, ranging from best-selling memoirs by George Tenet, Robert Baer and Michael Deaver to business advice from Vanguard founder, John C. Bogle. The topic of the August 23rd talk will be his book-in-progress, Right Fresh from Heaven-John Chapman a.k.a. Johnny Appleseed: The Man, The Myth and The American Story, forthcoming from Simon & Schuster. Mr. Means and his wife, Candy, live in Millwood. The Reverend Anne Manson of Cunningham Chapel Parish will be the officiant, with special music being presented by Amy Call and Steven Murray. Loretta Johnston will be the organist. Keeping with the "rain or shine" tradition, a covered dish picnic will take place under the oaks immediately following the service. Along with your food to share, please bring a lawn chair for your comfort. The Board continually has ongoing restoration projects. Please remember our financial needs as you consider your tax-deductible contribution to Bethel. In that regard, click on this link for a form for 2009-2010 dues and contributions. We urge you to support Bethel and the role that it serves in the community. In the "save the date category" is our special "Raise the Roof" event for the benefit of Bethel to be held at the home of Marjorie and John Lewis on September 13, 2009. You will hear more about this later. Also, the Christmas Lessons and Carols Service is set for Sunday, December 20, 2009, at 5:00 PM. Mark your calendars for this meaningful and popular event! We hope to see you at the Meeting on August 23rd!! Yours very truly, (signature) IRDW:ceb Ian R. D. Williams President Enclosures
